I strongly advise all my friends not to use their mobiles while driving. It's not only distracting, it's like taking risk with your life as well as others' too.
If it's a must you have to take the call, I think that you should use your hands-free/Bluetooth or at least get off the road and do it.

If I have to, then I will use my cell phone while I'm driving.

Oregon has a law that you must have hands free while driving as of the first of the new year.

Our state doesn't have a law about it yet, but I do know that my friend got a ticket for driving while using her cell phone. She lives in the next county over, so they must have some kind of law that is just in that county.

I personally am glad that they outlawed it here in California....there are some real nut jobs that can not do 2 things at the same time......but what really gets me are the ones that try to push a shopping cart and yap on the cell phone in the stores  :BangHead:    seems I always get behind them at one place or another  :bs:

Any person that talks on a cell phone while driving is foolishly and recklessly gambling with other people's lives.

I do not think that anyone should be allowed to drive while talking a cell phone. My state passed a law that makes talking on cell phone a secondary offense where if you get pulled over for another reason and you are also talking on the phone then you can get a ticket for talking on the cell phone.

I am totally against it.  People are not focused on their driving while on the phone.  A lot of people cannot multitask, and this type of multitasking  is dangerous for everyone.  Hopefully the Police will fully enforce this law that is suppose to be in place.  People are very stupid and think an accident can't happen because they are talking on the phone and not paying full attention to all around them.

I think all States should have a law against it and enforce the law. Illinois has it and people still do it because they think the cops won't bother. My Sisiter is one of them. I won't ride in the car with her anymore.

New York has a law against it.  I agree with it.  Most phones come with hands free sets nowawdays anyway, why not just use it?

i don't think it should be allowed because if someone is driving and talking on a cell phone than obviously you are going to cause a crash, so i dont believe in that what so ever.

I dont even think a doctor who works in an emergency room should be talking on a phone while driving, they should go back to pagers and only make them legal, but then people would use them to use their phone to make a call, so yeah, how would you feel if your child was in a car, innocent, and another drier was yakken, and not paying attention, and now your child is dead, do we have to wait for this to have to all the senators and politicians who make the laws to get this stopped.

It's not a good thing.  If you must drive and talk, at least use a hands-free device.

Anything that distracts from driving while driving, should be avoided.

I feel you definetly you should not drive with a cell phone.  You got your mind preoccupied for one thing and you cant really hear what is going on around you It is dangerous for you and others.  I let my voicemail pick it up and talk when it is safer.  Then I can give my full attention on what is being said on the phone.

i think as long as you can concentrate on whats going on around you then go ahead. But I dont use the cell phone much to talk i just text and I can text without looking at my phone while driving so i do it all the time. Now if you cant do it and drive then you should lay your phone down but some people are just better at doing it then others.i have never wrecked due to talking on the phone while driving or texting

I think that talking on a cell phone while driving is stupid and irrisponsible. You're supposed to keep all of your attention on the road at all times. Cars are very dangerous and a split second could change your life forever.

I think that it is terribly dangerous and should not be allowed.  Any conversation can wait until you are parked.  That includes emergencies.  If you feel that a call is important, pull over to a safe place and make or take the call.  A lot of bad accidents are caused because someone was talking on their cell phone.

It should be illegal and strickly enforced not
to use cell phones when driving but however
"some" people don't care if they cause a
accident.

I don't think that you should use a cell phone when driving. I have come close to being run into a few times and when I look at the driver they are always on a cell phone. It is very irritating. I'm glad that I live in a state that made it against the law to use your cell phone while driving as of 1-1-10.

I find it very insulting that there are others on the road that don't care enough to put there phone down or let VM pick up while you're driving.  My life is important to others and I don't think its up to anyone to disrespect me and neglect your responsibility to pay attention to the road.  I DON'T CARE HOW GOOD YOU ARE AT TALKING OR TEXTING DON'T DO IT.  What is going to be your excuse when you get into an accident.  How stupid will you sound when you answer "oopps Sorry officer I was on the phone because my friend wants to know what time I will be there to pick her up. Oh and tell the family that I killed that I'm sorry"  Sorry doesn't do squat at that point.  Don't put others at risk.   >:(

I don't think talking on the phone is so bad, as long as you have a headset or some sort of hands free system. But these people who try to text while driving are IDIOTS.
I was a truck driver for 15 years and I have seen a lot of people doing some really stupid crap on the highways. Driving and texting is way up there on my top 10 list of stupid
things people do on the highway.

There is nothing more annoying then having to go out of your way to make sure someone doesn't run into you because you see them texting and not even looking up at the road.  I almost got hit like 5 times trying to switch lanes then realize the other person is looking down reading a text mssg.

I think talking on your cell phone while driving is okay as long as you keep it brief but there is no way you should be texting. Paying attention to the road is way more important than whatever text you're reading.

80% of the time, it won't make a difference. But 20% of the time, allowing yourself to be distracted -- whether by talking on the phone, yelling at the kids in the back seat, changing the radio -- whatever takes your eyes off the road, is just an accident in the making.

And even if you're not distracted, the guy in the other vechicle might be so be ready! :peace:

I don't usually use the cell phone while driving.  I like to stop to make a phone call.  If someone calls and I can't get the phone I will call them back when I get to stop.  Texting while driving is just crazy.  I can't believe people do that.

It's just not smart. If you can at all avoid picking up the phone, you definitely should. It's illegal here if you're under 18.

With all the blutooth devices out no one should need to pick up a phone while driving any more. I have my phone connected to my car but not to the truck. In the truck I will use it but only dial when I'm stopped and keep it very breif.

I don't drive, but i'm definately against using phones while driving. I feel like when you drive so much, it becomes routine, and then you forgot that one small slip up can lead to an accident, or worse, death. Best not to have a distraction.

I've never seen anybody, EVER, who can drive competently while on the phone.
Should be damned illegal; if it isn't already.

Though sometimes; its gratifying to cut them off, or drive close to try and scare them straight.

Graeth--- I don't mean to pick on you but I must to prove a point.  I too get gratification by cutting them off or driving too close but this is what causes accidents.  It's responsible drivers that get aggravated with the non responsible ones and then it becomes road rage which isn't good either.  Hands free phones are a great idea but nothing else.  It's a vicious cycle and most drivers won't quit till they get into accidents resulting in a death of their own or someone else s, Then they're sorry and it will be to little to late!

I have mixed feelings about driving while talking on a cell phone. I do it occasionally, for very short, important calls, although if i am in a good spot I try to pull over. But a lot of people absolutely cannot concentrate on driving while they're talking. I don't really see how there's much difference between talking on a cell phone and talking to another person in the car. the only difference is that a passenger in the car can see the driving conditions, and might be aware if the driver gets distracted. I think texting while driving is a lot more dangerous, because not only are you distracted, but your hands are occupied too.

I agree with southernhorizons....talking to a passenger in the car is not that different than talking to someone on a cellphone using handsfree devices.  Talking to a passenger often causes the driver to look at that person thereby taking their eyes off the road.

I think handsfree cellphone usage is ok.

Texting while driving is OUT!  There is no way you can glance down at the phone pad to type and stay focused on the road conditions.

driving is a privilege, nothing should occur in the car that could pose a threat to others (eating, phones, texts, playing with the radio)...it only takes a split second to kill someone else!

in most if not all states you can be ticketed for not being in control of your vehicle its called failure to maintain control! Why would talking on a phone not distract you from main purpose of driving a motor vehicle! I am strongly against any type of distraction in the car! If your driving you should stay focused on task of driving! You need to watch out for others because they certainly don't watch out for you!!!

Anyone that thinks it is ok to cut someone off is pretty ignorant and just as dangerous as talking on a cell phone.
I'll agree talking on a cell phone CAN be dangerous but there are some that can do more than one thing safely.
I would be for it to be against the law it it came to it.
But you are even more of a danger cutting someone off that is one a cell phone then they are....Common sense is sometimes a hard thing to have it seems.

:sad1:  Well, as a VICTIM, {I was hit by a drunk driver, while crossing the street},, I can tell you that ANYTHING that takes your mind of the road for just a second shouldn't be allowed at all. I lost a lot. I use a electric scooter to get around, and I had 17 surgeries, all because of some idiot who thought he could handle his capacity to drink. Texting, or even talking on a cell phone while driving is very dangerous.  But then, why should I complain.. I got a free scooter, I get great parking spots.. and I even got a service dog, that I can take anywhere..

I think that cell phone use of any kind when driving is very dangerous and needs to be outlawed.
