The real question is who is going to save their tax return or pay off some bills with it...and who is going to splurge on merchandise and put the money back into the economy like the goverment wants us to???

I filed my taxes earlier in the week, was going to be getting back a good amount of money, then I got a call from the tax people. My tax return has been taken by the IRS for student loans from 6 years ago. Which I had forgotten all about and had never gotten any notices about. I am so upset that they can just take my tax refund without some kind of notice to me and the fact that the majority of my return was the Earned Income Credit and the Child Tax which is supposed to go to my son. How can they take his money from him for my bills? I do not understand this at all and have called every place I can and the only answer I get is they can do whatever they want to get their money and I can do nothing but be mad about it, well I am mad about it!

Used my taxes?  I haven't even filed my taxes so far.  I am still waiting for additional documents to arrive.

Waiting on my refund to come still. The direct deposit should arrive in my bank account tomorrow, yay! I'm using some of the money towards taking a course in medical transcription so that I can have a lucrative work-at-home job in a field that is only growing by the day. The rest is going directly into savings since I am in between jobs at the moment and may need to use some of that money to cover expenses if I don't find something soon.

i filed my taxes on january 20th and my refund was deposited in my savings account on the 28th. we've spent about a sixth of it, on a new laptop for me and a family trip to universal studios hollywood, and the rest will be staying in our savings account until august when we move.

while i agree that this sucks and am sorry to hear this, you should know that the child tax credit is not intended to go to your child. this credit goes to you because of the expenses you have throughout the year because of your child. so while your child is the reason you qualify for the credit, it is not meant to go to him which is why the irs can swoop in there and take it from you.

I am saving my tax refunds, which were deposited today : ), for my graduate school tuition!!  The price of grad classes are so expensive it is insane!! 10 credit hours this semester cost me close to 4700 dollars.  : (  Lucky for Barack, I will be getting a 2500 tax credit next year : )
