Today I opened up my combined bill with ATT and discovered there were two new charges totalling $30 for some unknown reason. I"m not sure why it was on there but it was a long distance company (which I have wireless service for already) and a billing service company. Now, this really frustrate me that they can just send me a bill and ATT would charge me that. I paid for it to avoid the disconnect but I am disputing it with my credit card company to get the overcharges back ($30). Now, I feel that I have watch all the bills...My family tells me it's because i'm online doing survey and giving away my information. They say the information is used to do these types of things. I'm a little paranoid now. :confused1:

If you do anything that requires you put in your phone number to get sent a confirmation PIN, then you probably are being charged for those.
Do NOT do those. The giant wall of fine print underneath the 'offers' usually bind you into a contract that charges money.
If you are going to do surveys, be careful. Don't do anything that you don't actually want to put yourself into.

This is actually for my house phone bill. I don't put my cellular on anything besides personal and government documents.

In that case the only suggestion I could think of, would be to maybe ask the phone company or something to figure out just where these extra charges are coming from.
Once you know where they've originated from you should be able to find out exactly what's happened, and perhaps try to get your money back.
Since it's not your cell phone bill, I don't know of too many of the offers here that require a charge to a PHONE bill, so... tracing it is your best bet I think.

Thanks for the link. I actually read this already so I'm very careful with the pages I click. Thanks again.

:thumbsup:I try not to give out my # online, but when I have to, I make sure I'm not going to be charged for anything . You have to be careful of some sites, because they are pretty sly. They don't mind scamming people!!!

no i have a unlimited plan with sprint which has a set price so i dont have any hidden or crazy charges. they are probably charging you for services that are not included in your plan

It is hard to say where these charges came from. I have a friend who tried a few GPT sites, and she did have a $20.00 unauthorized charge on their internet and phone bill. Something from some media company. She was being careful about not signing up for things, but you really have to watch what you are clicking on. Somehow, they also had her date of birth. You may be signing up for something without knowing it, just by a click or two. It may have had nothing to do with completing offers or the GPT sites, it may be just from phishing or cramming which are both practices to steal your info and charge you.
After calling verizon and the company where the charges came from, all charges were removed. She just hopes that next month she does not get charged again.

That just recently happened to me on my last phone bill. Some voicemail company said that I placed an order online for their service, but I didn't. There was an extra charge of $15 on my telephone bill for their service, which I never requested in the first place. So I called the 1800# that was on the bill to see how I could get the charge removed from being on any future bills. I spoke to a representative who said that she would cancel the account and place a block so no other charges from their company could be added to my phone bill. What I think happened is that some survey that I taken some how distributed my telephone number and e-mail address to this company and linked my information to this "supposed" order that I never placed or verified.

sometimes you have to watch carefully and sometimes it is hard to figure out what the fees are for everyone seems to make a buck off someone else these days.

all the time and never understand why

I have seen offers that ask for you home phone number and charge you but you can get it back I did an offer that asked for my home number and I had no idea they would charge me for it.

With Tmobile so far so good , i just came from with a horrible ending with AT&T and they suck with their charges , i remember looking @ my bank account and seeing 15 taken out because of some weird survey i did , smh ( nothing related to FC tho )
-
My whole bill is an unwanted charge lol. But yes theres this special lil section with Tmobile marked other charges that i have no idea what falls under it but i know i pay 14 a month and its not taxes. When i call they talk real fast or in a different language so i hang up and pay it
-
Nope, I have a magic jack and all I have been charged is 20 a year. Been luck enough to not have any other ammounts show up on there.
-
I was getting some of those that where from online things that send you texts ....I called and had got them removed ...then blocked , they still showed up. It took along time to get them off of my bill.

OMG Yes....You really have to watch the ATT Cell bill.....They are good at taking off the charges but you have to watch and catch them.

This type of thing has happened to me twice. Call AT&T to dispute the bill so that they can notate it on your bill. Then call the company who added these new charges to cancel the service they added to your number and be sure that they will send the $30 to AT&T so they can deduct the amount from your balance. It usually takes about 2 billing cycles to see the deduction. But do Pay the balance to AT&T so that you will not have any trouble. Once AT&T has received the $30 from the third party billing they will deduct the amount from your bill. Also be sure to get a confirmation number from the third party biller and give that info to AT&T. I also asked AT&T to put a block on third party billing. Hope this helps you.
-
Also, do not complete any survey what wants you cell phone number and a PIN confirmation.....You'll get charged for sure.
But with ATT you also have to watch that they are not charing you needlessly. Everytime I make a change to my plan (new phone, plan change, etc.), they mess up my billing/add some chages. I check my bill line by line each month.

That phone stuff drives me crazy. I started Virgin Mobile because I can't stand the unknown charges lol...I got charged so much money with my old phone companies :BangHead:
