Title: Namebrand or storebrand?
Post by: paigesuftko on March 06, 2010, 11:51:42 pm
When you go to the store what do you usually pick up name brand or the cheaper store brand?

I pick-up the best product for my money.  Sometimes that is the name brand and sometimes that is the store brand.  Name brand does not necessarily mean the best quality.  Often the best quality is in the store brand.  Sometimes there is absolutely no difference (check labels, ingredients - often exactly the same).

most of the time I buy the namebrand, I don't know why I do that cause I think that namebrand and storebrand taste about the same! :dontknow:

I would buy the storebrand before the namebrand.

The namebrand and the storebrand are exactly the same except for the soft drink beverages. Coca Cola is way better than some other clone with a weird name that I have never even heard of. Also, Swanson Chicken Broth is way better than Best Yet's version.
namebrand and storebrand medicine are the same thing, so I buy the storebrand.

Depends on the product, but usually whichever is cheaper. That generally means storebrand, but if there is a sale or I've got coupons that would make namebrand the same price, I'd probably pick it up. Though again, depends on the product.   :)

It really does depend on the product. Store brand canned goods and such are really just as good as name brand, but mayonnaise and peanut butter...name brand. Shampoo and other items , store brand are great. Walmart is probably the best.

I agree, it does depend on the product, but I have found a lot of store brands that are great! Saving some money is a motivator for most (if not all) of us on here or we wouldn't be here. I am not one of those people who are "identified and branded" by big names (I know you guys have seen that question asked in many ways during surveys ie "What I buy/own says who I am.") so I am not embarrassed to be seen with a low-life store brand in my cart. ;) Plus, if I don't end up liking the generic, I can always go back and get name brand - with a coupon of course.....

I buy the store brands often, unless the name brand is on sale and I have a coupon too.

If the name brand is cheaper then taht one but sometimes i found the namebrand and cheaper one to be the same price, so i usually go with namebrand. the store brand is just as good, and honestly when you look at the storebrand you are getting your money's worth because they usually pack it full and less empty.

I usually buy the store brand except for soup and then I always buy name brand. I will also buy name brand products if they are on sale for cheaper than store brand. For example the other day a name brand cereal was on sale and I had a coupon so I got two boxes of cereal for .49 a box. Pretty good deal!!!!

There is almost always a good difference between the two. I always stay with namebrand especially with food....no cheap crap here.

I'm Like you...I could go either way. Sometimes the name brand is better. ( I don't know if you all know this, but some store buy the leftover from some of these name brand companies and just slap their name of some of the products. At least that what i told.)

I buy both but it really depends on the product I'm buying. Some store brand foods taste good and some don't taste good at all.

Whatever is on sale doesn't matter what brand it is.

I think they are both the same. When it comes to edible items, I compare the ingredients. They are almost exactly similar. So I would select store brand which can help you save a few cents.

Honestly I prefer the namebrand when it comes to food items. I tried some storebrands but I don't think they are as good. I actually think some of the storebrand names are pretty good when it comes to some shampoo and the aspirin and some over the counter medicine.

I rarely buy store brands.  The quality has gotten better, but it is still not as good as name brands.  I buy name brands on sale, many times they cost no more than the store brands.  If you have coupons along with a sale, the name brands are often cheaper than the store brands.  Do not always assume that the store brands are cheaper, always keep your eyes open and use those coupons.

I power shop and buy in bulk when I can get things cheap, then I have plenty and never have to buy groceries and household items at full price.  I also do not have to worry about running out of things quickly.
