Title: Sewing
Post by: aoyelove on May 02, 2010, 08:25:02 pm
Does anyone have an opinion on sewing clothes? I seems like a fun project I want to try, and the idea of the money I could save myself or even make doesn't hurt.

There are lots of easy beginner patterns out there.  I like sewing, it gives me a small sense of accomplishment.

I've been thinking about learning. I think that if I am able to learn and start sewing my own clothes, it would save me so much money. I have a sewing machine a home and I bought myself a pattern for a fairly easy looking skirt, so I've got my hands crossed about my success!

I used to sew alot when the kids were little.

Now I use my machine for mending.

It is fun to make something and wear it!  Good luck.

I was an avid seamstress as a younger woman but I found that it cost less, took less time and was just as durable when I bought my clothes through less expensive sources such as eBay and Target.  I thought making my own clothes would save me some money but it never did and the time investment was better spent with my family.

Go for it.  My mother can sew a little.  She made a couple of outfits for me when I was a kid.  I can sew a button and hem pants but that's it.

I don't want to sew all my clothes, but the sort that would be cheaper and better to sew. Like skirts, I wear a lot of skirts and sewing them will definitely save money, because due to my extremely small waist size, the only stores that sell skirts that fit me well tend to be incredibly high end and expensive.
