THEY NOT COOL :BangHead:

My husband does when he gets to high strung. Alot of people bite their nails for different reasons.
-
Some people eat, some people twirl or pull their hair, some people bite their nails - whatever it may be, it's usually a nervous habit.
-
i used to bite my nails a lot as a child and young teen, but it had nothing to do with being nervous. i am a very active, get-up-and-go kind of person so when i am forced to be sitting still, like in class, watching a movie, or in the car, i would bite my nails. my dad used to joke about the movie i was watching or the book i was reading that it was a real nail biter- not because of the actual book or movie but because if it was long enough i would practically chew off all my nails. luckily, i grew out of that habit :)

i do it. its become a really bad habit.
-
I've seen my husband and brother do it when they're under stress.
-
I just don't like my nails so i bite them so i can keep them short.

I bit my nails as a kid -- probably just a nervous habit that provided some subconsious relief.
I've out grown that bad habit to some extent. Whenever a nail has a snag, chip, peal etc, it's just part of the nervous habit to get rid of the annoyance. Now I file my nails alot to get rid of the snags etc.
In recent years, I've used fingernail polish to cover the nails up, but I've discovered my new habit is removing the nailpolish. Unfortunately, this removes a top layer of the nail as well. If you do this a lot, the nails become weak and break and peal easily.

I bite my nails, I don't know why I do it.I guess that's why my nails never grows.

I think people do this as a nervous habit. My question is why does my cat bite his nails? I have 3 cats all from the same litter and only 1 of them bites his claws on a regular basis. The others do it once in a while and I think they're just trimming them but this one cat does it much more often than the rest of them.
-
I have never been a nail bitter, BUT I have to keep them trimmed EXTREMELY CLOSE and filed down VERY smooth. BECAUSE My BAD NERVOUS HABIT is picking and biting the cutical or rough skin around my nails. HORRIBLE!!
I am sure that it comes from some of the sexual abuse and trauma that I suffered in my childhood.

nervousness and jittery mostly, some people have to have something to do with their hands all the time. Some find other things to do, but some bite their nails, some fidget with their hair, etc.
-
i bite my nails really bad it is a bad habit but i cant help it i think its nerves.
-
I do it 'cuz I think I have a smoker gene. I always have to do something with either my mouth or hands. Never touched a cigarette in my life, but who knows..Maybe I was just born craving an addiction.

According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, "Nail biting is the habit of biting one's fingernails or toenails during periods of nervousness, stress, hunger, or boredom. It can also be a sign of mental or emotional disorder. According to Freudian theory, nail biting a symptom of oral fixation. The clinical name for nail biting is chronic onychophagia."

I use to bite my nails but I am not sure why I did. It had nothing to do with being under stress. That was a long time ago and I no longer do it.
-
My mother says it better than stress eating!! Or its the closest thing to around that want add pounds to ya.
-
Because they are too lazy to file them or clip them.
Now that is just a horrible thing to say and very untrue. I personally bite my nails but I do also try to keep them filed. When I bite my nails it's not because I'm lazy and don't FEEL like filing them down it's simply because of nerves. I can file my nails down to where there are barely anything left and I'll just start to bite at the cuticle instead.

When there are no tools primal nature takes over, hang nails suck... not as much as having nails that grow so far out that they flip up, if that's ever happened to you, you'll remember it. When I get nervous I bite my lip. :o

I used to bite my nails. It was mostly alot of pent up stress. As I got older I found better was to relieve my stress. Still a work in progress though
