Going to the grocery really sucks, they've got us over a barrel and we're going broke because of it!

Maybe you can try going somewhere else, or buying the cheaper brands.

Yes it did for me but I started using coupons a lot. I am saving anyware from 20-40 dollors in my coupons on my once a month shopping at wal-mart. I also go to Walgreens alot and save bunches of money there watching there ads and getting things that are on sale and by one get one free or half off. Dollar tree and dollar general could be best friends also. Make sure if you haven't already download the shop at home tool bar so you get the credit and the coupons to print many good coupons out there that are free to print. Good luck and remember to watch ads and use coupons.

I've been using a lot of coupons. I like going through MyPoints to print coupons, so I can get points for using them, as well as the discounted price on groceries. I also shop at cheaper stores like Dollar General and Family Dollar.

I don't like it when I'm the only person in the house who has to do it its better when there's someone else with u

coupons, weekly circulars, and buying store brand has really saved us. We have cut back on our Costco trips and only shop when we need stuff as opposed to how we used to stock up...

I like using coupons and buying brands like great value

There are lots of wholesale food stores to go to. A buck goes further if you shop at some of these, also coupons come in handy at some. Aldis' has good prices.

There are many previous threads about saving money at the grocery store. Look at this way- it's cheaper than eating out.

Grow your own food. Shop at farmers markets.

grocery shopping is ok just one of those chores that has to be done since I eat at home almost everyday so have to have food to cook it isn't that bad of a chore if you go when store isn't too crowded.

I use coupons, and shop at Costco/Sam's Club along with Wal-Mart. We will also stock up with steak and chicken goes on sale and we freeze it...

That's great for you if you live in an area that has more than a 3 month growing season and/or have the room do to it! Those of us who live in cold states or large cities don't have that luxury.
I agree with using coupons (only for things I normally buy and not just because I have a coupon), always look at the 'price/unit cost' (it's amazing how much you can save if you actually check this), and I will boycott any food that is ridiculously priced for being out of season. Like buying shipped in fresh peaches that are $3.99/pound, I will buy frozen instead. Another disadvantage to living in colder climates. I do buy from in state producers as much as I can for all dairy, meat, etc. I would rather not feed California's economy if possible.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, I already use most of them, but I still think retailers have us by the short hairs.

i agree with you. i've noticed our grocery bill climbing
gradually by $10, $20, and now $40 and we haven't
changed a thing! if anything, we've been trying to cut
back on junk food and things we can live without for
both health and cost wise, and still... the bill just keeps
crawling upward.
and the thing is, we shop at a little independent grocery
store (which i much prefer over mass merchandisers for
a ton of reasons)... but yeah. we used to grocery shop
at walmart, but recently moved to northern ohio, where
finding a super walmart is a feat in itself ::)
but i'm with you, belleg1. i try to clip coupons, but
all i find are things i wouldn't normally purchase anyway,
so they don't help me much...

When in doubt, go to Costco with a buddy, or dollar tree. Even Wal-Mart has great deals! It's so hard to make sure we get a good deal on our food. We need it, but we don't don't need it to be so darn expensive.
