Title: Fish
Post by: BK_Adores_Chase on June 28, 2010, 08:36:18 am
I learned something new today.  Okay, so I have a small bowl and only change the water like once a week.  My fish were dying, so I read about some things and learned that if they are at the top looking like they are trying to get air, you should change the water.  Also, only feed them what they can eat in a minute, and that's only once a day.

Useful information, but why exactly is this in the Suggestions section?

Thanks for this information ~ Someone will find it very useful I am sure!

Don't listen to fussy pants, (just joking!!!)  I too have posted things in the "wrong" section...

but as long as people see it, read it, and comment then you did the right thing in my book!

I have fish! I started out with a 20 gallon but now I'm up to a 55 gal cause my fish grew.  My problem was that the water kept getting cloudy and the smaller fish would die.  The nitrate in my tank was WAY off!!!!  At the pet store they suggested using this stuff that would fix the nitrate, but within a few weeks it was back to cloudy! This went on for 6 months and I was cleaning my tank like once a month! Finally I spoke to an awesome pet shop person who told me I couldn't just trreat one thing cause it would throw everything off balace. If I was going to treat the nitrate I had to also treat the Nitrite, and Ammonia.  Now my tank stays great forever!  I wish I would have talked to that guy first!  Would have saved me a lot in aquarium supplies!!!!

Well I took the advice that I posted and my fish still die so I just give up.  Once these last 2 die I am done with fish.  I am sick of returning them to get new ones.  Darn things.

  I'm not a fish person.. but I threw some of those 'feeder' goldfish into my pond, and they grew to be very large. They were friendly, and let me pet them.. unfortunatly, they let my cats 'pet' them too... poor fish.

My niece got a few goldfish at a carnival one year.  They put them in an aquarium and those little goldfish grew to be a foot long!

I guess that is no different then being in a goldfish pond. It is crazy to think that they will get as big as room allows though!

So, I told my husband this...and his response was "fish are friends, not food."  I love him, but really...lol
