You must live in the country. When I first moved from city to country I couldn't sleep. I kept hearing crickets, coyotes howling etc. I got used to it after awhile. Last time I stayed in my old neighborhood in the city I couldn't sleep because of the train whistles ,planes from the nearby airport, and traffic. It's funny how it never bothered me before.

I'm originally from Houston, TX and now I live in Glenrock, WY, which only has a couple thousand people if that. N-E-Who, when I first moved here one night I heard a low knock at the door, which was weird. When I open the door it was nobody. After the third time I was starting to freak, because it was obvious nobody was outthere. So I picked out the window to find out it was a freaking Robin picking at boxelder bugs of the door. So many things were running through my head!!!!!!

I was just in NJ last weekend...and holy COW, what a ruckus the cicadas made all day and night! I have heard them on occasion other places, but never like that. swear it was worse than airplane noise ::)

It is loud where I live which is a a housing development and there are sections of woods here and there. I just noticed this noise within the last week. It will continue into September. I guess it will take several nights to get used to it.

What are cicadas? Sorry I really don't know. :confused1:

I'm originally from Missouri and now that I live in Los Angeles, I miss the sound of the cicadas in the summer! I also miss the sound of the crickets too. I wouldn't say that I lived 'in the country' back home but compared to the concrete jungle that I live in now, it was a lot more lively in the nature department!

I don't like bugs so when I hear the crickets outside, I run inside as fast as possible. I'm always afraid that while I'm walking, they'll just jump out in front of me. Or worst, jump on me!
