Title: self-clean oven
Post by: franlee46 on September 19, 2010, 07:55:43 am
I know this is crazy and has nothing to do with the FC but here goes: if you have one,self-clean oven, do not use it I turned my on today and the heat and the smell is unbearable making my eyes water and now I have canceled the operation and I am waiting for the door to unlock as the oven is way to hot. So has anyone else had this kind of problem? I have turned on every fan and opened all the windows which is 2 I live in a condo. This was suppose to be helpful I will never use this feature again. uck uck uck wonder how long before my condo will smell normal.

The first time I used mine, I didn't know what it would do. My husband was sleeping and the smoke alarm went off. He won't let me use it when he's home anymore. But I still love it.

The self-clean process is basically just cooking whatever gunk is in there at a very high temperature, till it turns to ash.  Some smell and even smoke is pretty normal, I think.

You have to clean out the big chunks.  The self cleaning does heat up the house, but I don't have to hand scrub it out...

When I used it there was smoke, but it beat having to scrub at the oven.  The smoke is from the oven burning away at the grime at high temperatures, so it's expected.  Maybe the smoke build up is because the smaller space a condo provides.  If you ever feel  like trying it again, try leaving all the windows open and then placing the fan near the oven, but also in the direction of the closest window.
