I just recently started advertising myself on eBay because I can carve rubber stamps really well. I've made about $200 so far in a few weeks! I'm just curious if anyone else has tried anything similar-what did you try? Did it work?

My hobby is studying the Japanese language. Before I can use this to make extra cash, I will have to first learn more than I do now.

i'd love to see your stamps! i'm an ebayer / etsy
user and post my art and crafts when i can find the
time to do it. i haven't made very much since i can
never seem to keep a steady stream of my handmade
things going -- but its something i would LOVE to do
full time. i'm confidant that i could make some pretty
decent money at it, if i worked at it consistently.
if you don't mind, what is your ebay username? ;D

lray3152, I just did a double take on your avatar pic. You look just like Dr. Len Horowitz. lol.
I had a hobby back in the late 80's of button making. You know, those metal pin back buttons that was such a huge fad back then. I would find the funniest things to say on them based on bumper stickers, and other things, and would print a bunch of them out and make them. At that time, I used a Badge-A-Minit machine which made 2 1/4 inch sized buttons. I sold them for around $2 to $3 depending on if colors were used or not. I used to work in a bar, and I would wear them, and people would sometimes literally buy them off of my body. ;D So I started making and bringing extras with me and if someone wanted one, I would sell it to them on the spot. One night I made more in button sales than I did in tips. lol
I used a low end machine, which broke from so much use, so I never bought another one. I don't see so many people wearing them now, so I don't know if they would make alot of money anymore.
But I used to enjoy making those alot.

actually, I'm kind of exploring the idea right with a few niches...research for now. I have sold antiquarian books online and done decently at it. that indeed is a tough market, but I enjoyed it.

Since I'm currently umemployed, I am seriously considering this. I'm not ready to begin yet because of a shortage of funds. Hope to have enough to invest by the first of the year.

I crochet and I've started making baby blankets and haven't made anything yet, but I know I will soon.

Years ago I used to buy stuff at a bargain and then re-sell on eBay. Everyone does that now though, there is no money in it anymore.

Hey Cloud-sorry it took so long to get back on here :) my username is maxrockyjake. Handmade stuff is so much fun! I love going to craft fairs and stuff like that-someone told me I should bring my stamps to craft fairs, but my thing is sort of to do very individual stamps-exactly what people want. I think I would have to make a kazillion to even get into a craft fair!! :)
-
Yeah, I've done freelancing with an art hobby and that made me some good money. :) Now I'm in art college so it won't be a hobby anymore.
-
Yes. I'm trying to sell things I've sewn for money. So far I've sold 1 pair of bloomers, but I haven't been advertising myself in the places that I know I'd get a good amount of customers because I'm scared I won't have time for the amount of customers I'll get. x_x

I know this sounds boring, but I am getting into coin collecting. Find it rather fun!
-
i have tried with out much success.but still keep trying.
-
yes, and that is a long story ...

@pammcco - Since your unemployed, consider making hundreds of blogs and try to get thousands of hits daily on them! You could make a little bit more money.....
-
Absolutely, my hobby is marketing online programs like Fusioncash and I have made thousands of dollars doing it.
-
I've thought about trying the blog thing. It sounds like it's VERY time consuming, though. I'll probably stick with things like the stamps. To the person with the sewing hobby-maybe you should try eBay! You don't get TONS of people buying right away and the ad only runs for 7 days, so if you get way too much, once your ad time is over, you can just not relist until you are caught up. Make sure to put in your description that it takes a while to make things, though.

im thinking about making themed gift baskets and trying to sell them or something. and around easter make really good deals for easter baskets. putting like homemade lollipops, chocolates, and stuff like that.

I work on computers (repair, upgrade, etc) for both my full-time job and my "hobby" job. I'm probably going to get into the web-site design side of things a little more too.

Look me up with Google if you need some insight.

I like making Christmas ornaments, and I used to always sell them to my co-workers at another job I had. But now the place I work for doesn't allow that, so I'm thinking about listing some on Etsy.
-
yes, by drawing.. i got request from my classmates when i was in middle skool hehe sold each drawing like 3-10$ ea :]

I metal detect. :-)

I crochet too! Mostly adult size blankets but getting into baby blankets since they don't take as much time & yarn. I have mostly been giving them as baby shower gift, lots of new babies coming into the family recently! :dontknow: Could sure use some good, fast baby blanket patterns!
