So i saw an ad that said they needed models of any kind! so i say hey what the heck why not??? and i called he asked what size are u in pants" i said "9 or 11" he then said "PERFECT you'll be with the plus size models"
WTF?! is this what is come down too?? you have to be a size 0-4 to be a "normal" model?? i dont like that! i hate that my daughter will grow up THINKING (because of tv) that u have to be skinny to be accepted in this world!!! :( thats just wrong! i wish there was something i can do to change that fact!
-
Have you seen many of these so-called "attractive" models nowadays? They are nothing but skin and bones; it's quite sickening really, looking at them. I'm a size 14-16 myself; the bones in my hips are too wide for anything else; gets rather annoying that my jeans are always too loose on my waist.

Uh...yeah! I thought plus size started at 14W. Since when did size 9-11 become plus size? I was so happy to get down enough to fit in some of my 12's. So according to the fashion world, I'm over plus size? :o Not to mention, I wear petite. So I'm short......and fat?
-
according to this guy it is.. :( i said forget it! what a low blow!!! :(
-
Darn that television set...phooey.

Look in any fashion magazine and really take a look at the girls. Like the upper arm ratio and narrowness of the wrist. Pathetic! Like someone said on here before (animikokala), they look malnourished, and make themselves that way. No wonder we have teen girls struggling with eating disorders.
-
Lol Really?? Thats so funny. They are looking for models that are a size 0 lol..So to them a size 11 is huge lol...Its realy bad. I agree
-
This is what is considered plus size
These models in my opinion are curvy but are not fat or plus size. They are average women in my opinion.

THOSE models are plus size??? That's crazy! They look like skinny normal people to me. I'm so in agreement with you guys on this one. it's sad that the world has made those ultra skinny people the look that we are supposed to be striving for. I was so proud of myself when I fit into 8-10 pants. I must be MEGA-PLUS size to them LOL!!!

Here are more " plus size models"

According to the fashion industry those women are overweight and plus size women. Most women which they had those curves and that form of body.
I bet if you put a skinny model next to a "plus" size model most men would agree the "plus" size one is more appealing.
-
Hmm I shall post a poll on here with photos of plus size vs. average models.
-
The plus size models look healthy....and happy. I think most men would take one of these women over a stick figure any day.
-
It's a shame that being over a size 8 qualifies you as plus size.
I hate that my 3 year old twin daughters are worried about getting fat.
Their cousin who is 5 told them that no on likes fat people and it's a shame that anyone would teach her that.
I'm trying to make them comprehend that size doesn't matter and everyone is lovable.
Unfortunately, they seem to listen to my cousins daughter over me and talking to my cousins was pointless she is a twig who instills this in her daughter :BangHead:

All you can do is try to raise your daughters with a "healthy" attitude concerning this. The body is not made to be starved. Health is much more important than how we "look". There was a book out called "Fit or Fat", and it had some very good advice in it.
The body has to burn fuel from what we eat. It's important to nourish ourselves. This can't be done out of thin air (no pun intended). Even people who work out all the time will tell you that you must eat good nourishing food. Not one body builder, or anyone that works out, or exercises regularly, looks like a stick. Why, because they practice proper nutrition along with it.
That's why some of these models look horrible if you see them without all the trimmings (make-up, etc.). They actually look sallow and haggard in their face and bodies. Where the notion of being 30 lbs. under your natural body weight came from.....who knows? We need more models walking the catwalk that are "normal" size. After all, how many of us actually wear a size 0 among the masses?
-
Yea, It's not like all of us can afford to live like "The Housewives of Orange County" or something! Those ho's have a kid and shrink back to nothing in about a week!! I only wish I had the kind of money they did to get rid of extra fat! Its almost like they didn't have children to begin with!! By the way, those models are beautiful!!!!
-
this is such an important topic.
Not only are our young women having eating disorders, but so are many boys these days due to the advertising industry.
PLEASE praise your children or those in your lives at ANY size. :) It's certainly OK to be "plus size" (in quotes because of the distortion in society) -- it's important to be HEALTHY at any size.
-
that is really messed up.. when i was a 14 before 3 kids and 3 c sections i was very happy being a size 12... and i looked good and felt good about my self..
-
I agree this is an important topic! It's disgusting how people are so skewed in what they think is normal now. The normal models are NOT normal. They are undernourished and sickly looking if you ask me! I think these "plus size" models look a heck of a lot better than Kate Moss ;)

THEY are gorgeous. i dont consider them plus sized.
-
I do not consider 9 or 11 to be plus size. I can not believe that he said that. It is riduiculous what the world is coming to that size 9 is considered big. I think that size 0 is just gross if you ask me.
-
i didnt let it affect me but it made me think.. man my daughter will grow up in a world where to be "perfect" you have to be a size zero?? ugh idk i WILL teach her to love herself SKINNY or FAT! as long as she is healthy she should thank god everyday that she is on this earth!!
For myself i mean i use to be a size 7 but after the baby i cant get back to that (that n i haven't really tried) this is the ONE time and this WEIGHT that i have felt SOOO comfortable with myself! my mom ALWAYS told me "ur getting to fat" i was a size SEVEN!! i looked GOOD and now at a size 9/11 she still tells me i look fat and my responce to her is ALWAYS "but i LOVE it"
so yea ladies and men DONT let the tv tell you what u SHOULD be! if you feel comfortable FLAUNT it!! LOVE IT! be yourself! LOVE yourself!!! the world truly changes when you LOVE yourself :)
-
Wow - those pictures are of plus size models? They have like perfect bodies - not too big, not too small. My advice is to get rid of your cable, then your daughter won't have to learn anything from the TV :angel12:
-
if you dont like it do something about it
but power to you ladies :female:
-
Not bad!!! They all look hot!! ;D :notworthy:
-
Things really have changed. I think the tv and the fashion industry has put so much on what they think what is normal or what a person should look like. Forgetting about who that person really is from the inside out. Ive always been a confident person with class, character and style. I love myself. I know who I am. If someone have a problem with me, so be it. I dont take it personal at all. Everybody got something to offer if they look within instead of trying to be accepted. Gotta stay positive.

AWWW MAN YOU SHOULD SEE THE GIRLS I SEE WALKING AROUND THE MALLS , OR IN THE CLUB ..SKIN AND BONES AND THEY SWEAR THEY ARE THE MOST SEXIEST THING IN THE WORLD ..SORRY I NEVER REALLY LIKED LITTLE BOYS DRESSED LIKE GIRLS. THANKS TO HOLLYWOOD AND ALL THOSE MISCONCEPTIONS THATY YOU HAVE TO BE 80 POUNDS TO WORK IN A MOVIE. GROSS..
-
i hate to say it but if those are plus sizes than im QUEEN size or KING size! i dont mind admitting im size 22 ...but thats due to medical problems (for my weight).... todays idea of "perfect size" or "healthy weight" isnt always true!
-
The fashion industry is way out of control. They seemed to have picked the straight body type and forgot about all the curvy body types out there. Used to be the more curves the better.
According to that guy you talked to, Marilyn Monroe, probably considered the most "sexy" woman ever, would have been considered a "plus sized" model in today's world. How whacked is that?
I'm a solid athletic type - let's just say from my training and weight lifting (for my sport), I'll never ever fit into any kind of "skinny" fashion, and that also means my pants will always have about a 6-8 inch gap at the waist (just to find one that will fit around my legs/hips).
I'm thankful my nieces look up to me as their "cool aunt" and think all my activities are great, so they have me as a healthy role model rather than getting into all the media hype. Plus my sister really down plays the hype where they (my nieces) are now feeling sorry for the models and actresses as they think they look unhealthy.
As long as you have energy and stamina to do what you want/need to do - you are on the right track - regardless of what the bathroom scale says, or "fashion trends".
-
I'm a 9 too and darn proud of it. I love that i have hips and an a$$. If they want to call me plus size so what! Rock those curves ladies!
-
I like the models in this pic not the bony ones. How do they survive. Common..look tyra banks now she looks way better to me. Skinny ppl just look ugly to me. U probably can't help it if u are naturally like that but don't try to make urself skinny purposely.
-
I guess this is what we are supposed to look like to be sexy?

It is true most of us are not a size 0. And that makes it EXTREMELY hard for people like my daughter who actually ARE a size 0. She has a very hard time finding clothes that fit!

She wouldn't find in hard here in California. Most shops carry only up to size 12-14, and you have to go to a plus size store to get larger sizes. Some stores are finally getting a plus size department now. My friend wears a size 1, but she isn't skin and bones. She is petite though.

yea i think California is RE-DONK-U-LOUS!! I am born n raised in california and out there every department store only have 0-12 and it sucked cuz my mom couldnt shop with me because of that :(

Look at 50's movies! Those women were GORGEOUS, and they were at least size 14.
-
It's not bad to be plus-size, some people are just built larger. There's also nothing wrong with being called a "plus-size" if you're a size 9 or 11.
Also, I do think people these days tend to glorify an imagined past of large women being the norm, but it was simply never true in the modern era. What is considered beautiful is a direct result of what people who have money look like. Back when people who had money were the only ones who could afford to eat and stay out of the sun, being heavy-set and fair-skinned was "beautiful". Now that fattening food is cheap and people usually work indoors, being heavy or fair is considered less beautiful because the wealthy can afford to eat healthy food and to be outside long enough to tan. It's all a matter of class.
Anyway, while I do appreciate that nobody should be ostracized for any physical characteristic, you can't ignore that most people who are very large are that way for a reason (the reason usually being lack of proper diet and exercise). Bigger people aren't less beautiful, but they are usually less healthy, and I feel like when people talk about how it used to be that a size 14 was beautiful or that "real women have curves", they're only distracting from the plain truth that people these days are not living healthily, and it is a huge problem regardless.
Also, I find the phrase "real women have curves" incredibly offensive. Real women come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny to Amazon. Don't hurt the feelings of tiny women by removing them from womanhood. :female: :female: :female:
-
I agree with you kcaution about wealthy/beauty issue.
I think the "real women have curves" isn't meant to exclude smaller women, but is meant to promote the idea that curves are beautiful. Societies idea of what is beautiful has made many normal girls uncomfortable about their weight, when there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. The girls in Hollywood often get so stressed about body image they become anorexic looking and obsessed to the point, it is extremely unhealthy.
I agree though that smaller woman are just as real. The idea is that, you should love yourself in whatever shape you are. Our nation is unhealthy, and it's sad that the junk is what is cheap and so many people are victim to constant health struggles merely because of their income, but when you love yourself you make more of an effort to take care of yourself. If you believe you are a grotesque ugly stain upon the earth because you have some rolls around the middle or big badonka donk, well you will probably end up depressed and caught in a vicious cycle of overeating, guilt, and constant bad decisions regarding healthy choices.
I have been there, I know :sad1:
