Title: Are we starting to celebrate the holidays way too early?
Post by: golotomer on November 03, 2010, 05:15:22 am
Each year the stores are decorating for the upcoming holidays earlier and earlier.  I'm already seeing Christmas decorations in the stores, hearing commercials on tv and getting ads in the mail and it's only November 3.  Two months of Christmas is more than enough.  I refuse to participate any more than I have to.   :BangHead:  Sure I'll shop their sales but no decorating until mid-December for me.

You are so right. Much to early, It's all about making money. Retailers aren't doing well so they start earlier.

This is what store do advertise. That is a way to boost their sales. I really enjoy the holidays. I am an early shopper. However I start my decorations the day of Thanksgiving. Usually my family is all here and we decorate together after everyone has relax and tummies are full. We have a blast!!!

When Santa waves at the end of the labor day parade, you know it's the start of the holiday season. that's when the stores start putting up their Christmas displays. if you don't want the Christmas season to start until Black Friday, then you need to get rid of all the Unions. See it's Unions that run the Labor day parades, and its the labor day parades that bring Santa.

Death to Unions.

Yes, people are definitely starting to decorate earlier. It’s not even Thanksgiving yet and my neighbor already has her Christmas lights on, her reindeers and everything.  I like to wait until after Thanksgiving. It’ll get old if you start too early.  :P

I do think it's a little ridiculous that the day after Halloween the stores have decorated with Christmas stuff.  It seems a little soon.  But we are a society that goes above and beyond and likes to spend all their money!

Honestly, I could decorate for these holidays in May. Its my absolute favorite time of the year. We always get a real tree too. but I hate when it dies before Christmas even gets here, so we wait for that part. But besides the tree, I'm already ready to start decorating and putting lights up. I just love the lights and the whole feel of Christmas time, and if they want to start a little early in the year, why not? I love it, personally.

God yeah!  Stores are about 2 seasons too early. By the time labor day passes, stores already have christmas things up! It's annoying because they are about 6 months in advance.

I love the feeling of Christmas, the beautiful colors of christmas decorations......I like that the stores put things out already, it builds anticipation for all the great food and family I will be with soon! I don't buy anything they put out but it makes me feel good to see it lol. We don't even do presents really (the kids get little stocking stuffers and some candy) and we still get really excited! I put my tree up the evening of Thanksgiving, that's our tradition.  :)

I completely agree that the Holidays' are getting fused together. Commercialism really messes up the feel. You can't enjoy one holiday without having another shoved down your throat. I love Christmas but it comes so early now that I am burned out before the actual day arrives.

Yes, the holidays are celebrated way too early.  This causes the holidays to lose their true meaning.

Right. They do start advertising way too early. Its all about getting and giving gifts these days not about the true meaning of Christmas.

Actually the true meaning of it is quite different, google it's history 0_0. I believe they're advertising early so that people will remember to get themselves into debt this year. More and more people are less inclined to shop which means bad business for the companies and the season!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its not about the Holidays per say, but about the greedy retailers.  They are determined to get every penny out of your pocket earlier than usual.  I saw Christmas decorations on the shelves in August.

I absolutely hate that!  I hate seeing Halloween stuff in September and Xmas stuff in October.  I feel like my life is being rushed.

I agree with the Christmas season being to long. Last week I bought Christmas candy on sale (cheaper than the regular candy) and in the same transaction I bought left over Halloween Candy for 75% off. Something just seems wrong about that!

I think we are.  We went to a walmart one day to get Halloween candy and ended up buying candy bagged in Christmas wrap because they had already started removing the Halloween candy and moved it somewhere else and where the Halloween stuff was the Christmas stuff was already up and Christmas music was playing!  I think stores should not be allowed to do this until the middle of November.  My daughter was excited to see the Christmas stuff and forgot that we were there for Halloween stuff.

Yes  every year the stores lay out the Christmas merchandise right after Halloween.  It's all based on sales and most people get paid biweekly.  Some stores do not offer lay-a-way anymore.  It's all about the corporate world making profits.  I love Halloween and Christmas. We go all out with decorations.

The bottom line up front:  It's all about, money, money, money!!!  Complete greed by the stores.  Can't totally blame them with the economy being so bad.  Additionally, if they can't sell things to us, they can't employ more people.

Remember:  Money is the reason.

I began seeing Christmas decorations before Halloween. It use to be Black Friday was the start of the season now it's a month before that. Pretty soon Santa is going to be starting out in a bathing suit. I still wait until the last minute to get the presents.

I agree way to early. On tv they start to show the Christmas movies, and close to Christmas you can't see any Christmas shows.

It does seem wrong to be buying two holiday candies but wow the savings!  I love catching the after holiday savings.

They always do this. It is called Sales, this is how they real people to buy this stuff, when the holiday is over they have to get rid of it, and let it go at half price, so they start early to get more sold, and make more money.
