Title: Do you prefer to have your own vegetable garden?
Post by: sherieann_glino08 on November 10, 2010, 04:49:33 pm
I am a fan of gardening and it's like a hobby that refreshes my entire well being. Whenever i feel sad i just go to my garden and see the fruit of my hard work, i do both have a vegetable and flower garden. Some of the seeds can be planted early fall to be ready for spring, not only you'll save money from purchasing vegetables on the store you can also make sure that its purely organic. I also have a separate part for the compost, here is where I gather all the vegetables and fruits clippings and peeling. So whenever i feel like eating some garden salad i just pick up from the fresh lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers outside and make my own homemade dressing that's one healthy and delicious entrée. Not only you can save money, you can also assure of a healthy lifestyle for you and your family.

I love having my own garden.  You are absolutely right, you will spend less money and have healthier food, and you will know that it is not full of chemicals.  Everybody should grow something they can rely on to feed their families and possibly share with their neighbors.

We don't mind buying store produce, especially if it is grown locally however my fiancee would rather garden. We live in CO thou so we're really limited on the months.  This year we had corn, pumpkins, squash, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, bell peppers, anaheims, jalapenos, onions, rhubarb, raspberries, strawberries ummm I know there is more lol  I attached a pic of what part of it looked like, it's hard to believe it's bigger but it is.  We also have our own compost, it's very helpful!

My dad had a garden in back of his store when I was growing up and I liked eating all the fresh veggies that were grown.  Now that I have a house of my own - I'm looking to turn part of the flower bed around the deck (which is currently bare) into a garden in the next year or so.  Will have to build it up and put some wire to keep some of the local rabbits out - but I'm looking forward to having a garden again.

For some reason - garden grown carrots always tasted sweeter to me than the store bought ones...

I love gardening!  I wish i had more time for it, though.  I just started a new job that I work full time in just 3-4 days a week, so hopefully, if it pans out to be something that works for me, I will have more time to spend outside next summer :)

I do! My gramma always had a garden, my dad always had a garden, and now I always have a garden. Although I'm not quite the "green thumb" kinda gal. I swear I kill fake plants lol! But I'm getting better. ;)  We had tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumber, cilantro, onion, carrots, and something else.. I can't remember. But we definitely had everything to make pico de gallo!!! Yum!!! I also have flowers all over my yard. I tried to keep up with them last year, but they kinda got outta hand. Hopefully I'll get better at it next year. ;)

We grow a garden every year. I enjoy eating fresh salads out of our garden most of the summer. Right now we have a fall crop of peas, carrots and green onions comming on. It is great to eat fresh vegetables that you know where they came from.

I grow spinach and lettuce for salad on the front porch so we can have front porch salad ever other day in the summer that way you can keep it watered.  I also have raised bed in the backyard.  Next summer I'm going to try and raise potatoes in feed trough and see how they do, the dirt will not get so hard in the feed troughs.

I always prefer to have my own gardens. I grow vegetables, herbs and flowers. Make my own teas as well as herb spice blends. It always tastes good and is healthier I believe.   Im still eating tomatoes from my garden.  ;D

WITH THE PRICE OF FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES THESE DAY, WE ALL ARE GOING TO HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE OLD WAYS OF DOING THINGS.

I have grown okra, tomatoes, pumpkins, herbs, cabbage, and several varieties of lettuce.  It's awesome to make a garden from things in your back yard.  Lettuce grows great in Tx. and keeps growing for a while so you get several salads out of a single plant.  And it stays fresh unlike having pre-harvested lettuce in bags in the fridge.  I live in the city and have grown these things in pots, and right outide in the dirt in an area of my backyard.  I get great results bc I compost.

I have a friend who grows her own flowers, fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Like yourself, we share the same philosophy. I definitely prefer to grow my own vegetables. At least I will know they are organically grown without any use of herbicides, fungicides, pesticides, etc. that are harmful to our health. Unfortunately we cannot grow our own vegetables because we live in a rented home.   :(

I love having my own garden.  It's kind of a therapy for me.  I'm looking into doing one of those indoor botanical flower gardens.  Sounds fun.  I love the taste of fresh picked garden veggies.  I also enjoy giving stuff away to friends and neighbors.

Hey Kapeh, a friend just gave me some home grown carrots and they were sooo huge and sweet as candy.  It must be because there were no chemicals used during the growth.  I just love home made and home grown.

I would love to have my own vegetable garden, but I have learned in this area where I am that the slugs won't let you. Do you know what a slug is.  It is a snail without the housing. It's 3 or 4 inches long and slimy and about 1/4' thick. Look like leeches from a distance.

I would love to have my own garden.  I used to grow tomatoes and a few other things.  Now I could do some container stuff on my deck, but we are gone for a few weeks in the summer and everything dies.

Not so much.  I'd have to enjoy vegetables to enjoy my own garden.
