There is this story I want to share with people and it's an extremely sad one. This is a local issue we faced in 2002 and right now we have a petition about.
Please read! We need your help!
July 2002, 5-month old Brianna Lopez, born premature in February of that year in Las Cruces, New Mexico, died a brutal death after suffering some of the most horrific abuse I have ever heard a child having to endure.
In her short 5 months of life, she was pinched,bitten, kicked, thrown in the air, slammed on the ground, repeatedly bitten and sexually penetrated by her father and uncle.
An autopsy showed her anus and vagina were both injured. She had a significant abrasion on her buttocks, which went all the way into the buttocks, that was consistent with sexual assault. Immediately after she was pronounced dead, a nurse observed that her anus gaped open with no muscle tone. The autopsy revealed her *bleep* opening was dilated to a full inch. Internal examination showed an injury a half-inch to an inch inside the *bleep* opening and vaginal injuries inside the labia minora, including three small injuries to the hymen.
Her small body was literally covered from head to toe in bruises and bite marks. She also had older injuries that included fractures to her skull and legs.
From the Facebook Page dedicated to her, we read, “On the night of her death she had been thrown to the ceiling and hit the floor three times and also sexually penetrated. When authorities found her it shocked them so badly they needed counseling. Her father and uncle had raped her and were also the ones who threw her to the ceiling without catching her during a night of drinking. Her mother caused the many bite marks on different occasions and also pinched Brianna when she became frustrated with her baby. Brianna's father, Andy Walters would throw her when he became frustrated. On Friday July 19th at 10:00am Briana's mother Stephanie Lopez, woke to find Brianna not breathing and called 911. On Friday July 19th at 11:10am 5 month old baby Brianna Lopez passed away at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces from the injuries that were a result of this abuse.”
This poor little girl never felt a single second of love or affection in her short 5 months of life.
Brianna’s father and uncle were sentenced to 57 and 51 years in prison, respectively, for raping and killing the girl. Her mother received 18 years for negligence that led to the girl’s death.
In 2006, the convictions of these three monsters were overturned after lawyers for the three filed an Appeal with the New Mexico Supreme Court, claiming that because the three had been tried together and had provided evidence against one another, their right to cross examine their accusers had been violated. The Justices agreed, and overturned all three defendant’s convictions.
In June 2007, the mother’s conviction was reinstated.
In September 2007, the convictions of the father and uncle were reinstated on most counts.
That these three still breathe is a travesty itself, but they are all locked away in prison, for now.
The outrage in Las Cruces was astounding as was the sympathy and guilt the community felt over this poor child.
The only photo of her is one filled will bruises taken after her death just prior to her autopsy. By digitally removing the bruises, a decent photo of this child was made where she appears sleeping.
As if not abused enough in life, no one came forward to claim Brianna’s body, so the community banded together and claimed her, giving her a decent burial. Then, remaining family members came forward and decided to claim this poor child’s grave, erected a cage around her grave to keep community members who would erect a headstone as well as keep flowers on her grave, out.
Even in death this poor child’s memory is to be refused a little caring and affection, if the remaining family continues.
I am linking to a petition I would encourage everyone to sign to encourage the New Mexico Courts to legally remove that cage and allow well wishers to pay homage to this poor child, dead now for 8 years.

The family did nothing for this child in life and now, in death they continue in doing nothing for her, not even a few flowers or a decent headstone.
The family told us all to forget about her, but we refuse to!
If you google her name Brianna Lopez you will find graphic photos of her bruises and these are the only photos she ever had taken of her.
They will show photos of the metal cage her grave is surrounded by and an unkept grave site.
Locals want to buy her a headstone and to pay respects to her.

I COULDN'T WATCH ANYMORE! WHY ARE THESE PEOPLE STILL ALIVE! WHERE DID THEY COME FROM? I DON'T THINK THERE CAN BE ANYTHING MORE HORRIFYING TO WATCH!

This is so sad. How could one do this to a baby. I think that the dad, mother and uncle should be locked up for life and be tortured each and every day so they can see what it was like for this poor child.

It really kills me to read stories like this. I get that newborns can cause you to be frustrated at times but that is no excuse to hurt them and the sexual abuse is just disgusting, a baby? family? People like that deserve to be behind bars. How a mother could participate or sit around and let it happen is beyond me. You even look at my child in a funny way and I'm ready to tell you where to go.

Please keep this bumped up...We are really fighting hard to get that cage removed and need all the signatures to remove it.

They are evil plain and simple.... People who never deserved such a beautiful little blessing! I can't comprehend how a whole family let this happen and it's very hard to watch. None the less read about.

Unfortunately, tax payers money is going into the fathers, uncles and mothers well being. We are protecting them in jail....It's ridiculous that we can spend all this money protecting these people in jail, so they won't get raped or tortured, yet they raped & tortured a 5 month old?

Thank you, I hate seeing how graphic it is and telling people what happened. I wish sometimes it was just a fake story, something that never happened.
Unfortunately, it's reality and I want to keep her story alive and want people to help remove that cage around her.

I have 3 daughters... I have 3 year old twins and I have a 1 year old. It wasn't easy, it was extremely tough and still is. I am a young mother I am 24 years old. Would I ever harm my child out of frustration NO!
They are children, they will yell scream, break things and do things they shouldn't.
Best thing for any parent to do is keep their composure, if it starts getting bad tell them to go to their room to play or put them in time out.
Don't beat your children! Don't hurt your children! You were once their age and you once made your mother have nervous breakdowns, would you have wanted them to beat you?
If you were abused would you want to share the pain you felt upon someone else?
Many people on a daily basis try to have children, but can't ! They pay lots of money to try to conceive or adopt and most never do have children to love or care for...
Don't take your blessings for granted!
This family was sick and gross enough to abuse their precious gift. They took a beautiful baby from this world in a cruel manner and we need to keep stories like these alive. People if you suspect abuse speak up!

This is truely a sad story, but unfortunately something that happens every day to hundreds of children. There are some real sick people out there and no amount of time in prison is punishment enough for those monsters. It is crimes like this that I think is deserving of the death penalty. I don't understand why people do these horrible things to a defenseless child. Is it because they are truely sick in the head? Or is it because they have no regard for human life and the life of a child is less important than the life of a gnat? Whatever the reason, the punishment should fit the crime and the perpetrators of such crimes should be tortured the same way as the child did until their lives end.

I read this on another social web site and I cried for days everytime I thought about this poor little girl. I had nightmares involving my own kids because of this. I can't believe anyone could do this. :'(

Agreed..Sadly it would take a lot of Dexters to remove all them... I live next to the border of Mexico they could use a million Dexters right now... :(

I watched the story and my heart is breaking. How can anyone do those things to their own child or any child. Even with the bruises on her she looked like a little angel. She was not love while she was in this world, but she will have more love then you can imagine in the arms of the angels in heaven. :angel11: I signed the petition and I hope everyone who read this story will sign it too.

It's sad that even now her family won't allow her the love and respect she deserves. We really need to keep fighting to remove the cage. Please pass this story and link on so her story won't die out and we can get that cage removed
