Since there have been no new debate topics lately, I want to know what D&D thinks of the TSA's new security measures.
The security measures in question I am talking about are the combination of the new imaging scanners in some airports, combined with the new pat-down rules. Basically, these image scanners take a picture of your nude body under your clothes, and someone checks the picture for anything that may be hidden under your clothes.

(an example of what the picture would look like, what someone will be looking at when they scan you)
Q. If a passenger does not wish to be screened using advanced imaging technology, do they have options?
A. This technology is optional to passengers in the U.S. Passengers who opt out of imaging technology screening will go through alternative screening, including same-gender pat downs. Passengers flying to the U.S. from international destinations should check with the country from which they are flying regarding that nation’s policies. For more information on use of advanced imaging technology in the U.S., visit www.tsa.gov.

The pat down is more invasive than normal pat downs; they are allowed to use their fingers and hands to check every part of you, including grabbing and lifting *bleep*/genitalia over clothing. The part that really gets me steamed is even children have to get these pat downs if the parents don't want them to go through the scanner, though children under 12 get a "modified" pat down. I don't want my 14 year old brother molested by a possible pedophile just because he doesn't want someone to look at his naked body via scanner.
Personally, I am uncomfortable with both of these choices. If the airport near me gets one of the imaging scanners, I don't think I will fly anymore. The idea of picking between letting someone I don't know look at my naked body (even through an image) or getting one of these "new" pat downs makes me rather upset, actually. I believe TSA is going completely overboard with these new regulations. What does the rest of D&D think?

I feel the same way. However, they say they are doing it in the name of keeping terroists off the planes. I know because of so much complaining from the citizens, that they say they are working on making the images appear as stick figures instead of the actual nude images. There is still concern with the radiation with the scanners. I don't like the scanners at all, but I absolutely don't want any of the new pat-downs done on me at an airport.

I find it appaling that these less than highschool graduates (from their website) are allowed to conduct sexual assault and get away with it in the name of "terrorism". I don't get how these thugs that are employeed are allowed to do such horrible things to us and people seem to be completely OK with it.
That said, I will not go through the naked body scanners that save images to them and allow for some person to see me. Also, they have the same amount of radiation as an X-Ray, who's to say in the future that these will not render people infertile due to the high amounts of radiation they receive.
I'm getting to a point where I won't fly anymore unless it's absolutly required. I'm a 1K member of United and honestly, I don't even want to fly. I will not be taking my 10mo old daughter flying either. I don't want some thug feeling up on my baby nor will I subject her to high amounts or radation just because some dumbass at TSA and DHS thinks it's a good idea. I'm not OK with this and I will continue to fight it. I will and have in the past called out screeners due to their completely inappropriate touching.
And now they want to unionize the TSA agents? Wow, so an even already incompetant group of people will opperate with the same awesomness as the USPS. They're running a tight ship.
The TSA has gone completely too far and I think it's going to cause yet another industry to suffer. The airlines are already opperating at a near bankrupt level, I think this will continue to kill them, which could be the overall goal
/incoming conspiracy theroy
This could be the general goal of all climate change and green peace persons. Think, it causes people to want to fly less and cause less superjets flying through the air. It will continue to make it so that only approved travel happens. Kill the airlines and you've killed a huge carbon whatever they're calling it today since they can't get their story straight.
/end conspiracy theroy
Overall, I'm not a fan of either and I'm going to make it a huge pain in the *bleep* for these TSA thugs each and everytime I fly. I'm going to make that agent that feels me up as uncomfortable as possible. If more people think this way, it'll cause change. And unfortunatly this is just more and more government involvement in our everyday lives.

Australia is following our guidelines and yes, I know it was an Australian airport, but who's to say this won't happen here? I wouldn't want my wife to have to go through this.

I feel the same way as well. I will not subject my children to any of that, or myself for that matter. I am all about driving where I want to go these days. This is bull crap. I know they want to make flying safe, but this is just too much. I have no clue if these people feeling me up are sickos. whether they do back ground checks or not on them. There is always a first time. Who's to say they aren't gettin their jollys off by touching small children. Screw that.
I agree with you - we drive everywhere now. I dread having to fly for business in the upcoming weeks. There has to be a better way.
-
I don't feel comfortable with the new regulations either. Flying is not on my top 10 favorite things to do and with these new screening rules it has become my number 1 hated thing to do. I am all for preventing terrorism but I think there are better ways to do this. Even though both screening methods are invasive I think I would rather go through the scanner than have someone pat me down. I was patted down once at an airport and it made me feel like I had done something wrong.

I think they are going a little far with the searching but we need our country to be safe. From what I have been told the screens that you show up on are not that big and so you are not exposed to a bunch of people. I wish they could come up with something that would scan the whole body but one would not have to expose the naked body.

Although the TSA has been claiming that the scanners do not save images, there have been several articles that say otherwise.

Unfortunately, I trust non-government sources far more than government claims; I worked for years in state government and saw all the types of things they hid from people, and I know that the federal government is really no different (in essence) from state government. If it comes to the point where I have to choose, I'll choose the pat down rather than risk my naked body stored on an image, and later perused by a perv. The pat down only lasts a short period of time; that image would certainly last longer if those machines can save.

You know whats funny, after all my complaining earlier in this post... I actually went through that scanner thing last July, and I didn't think twice about it while doing it.... but I still wouldn't want my children going through it or being felt up because I chose not to let them go through it.
lol
There's no scanner yet at the Cleveland airport, so I haven't had to deal with them (yet). The news sites are just firing people up though, with all the horror stories of the TSA being rude/humiliating the disabled/cancer survivors/children.

I agree. I didn't even think twice about it, but now they're getting people all riled up. like you said with all their horror stories. I guess its up to us(the people) to decide which way we want to go. Although I do feel that by being patted down like that violates our rights. as stated in the 4th amendment.
There's got to be a way to secure the airlines without being so invasive and in violation of our rights.
-
OMG lol I had a dream last night that they were questioning my sons bulging diaper and since they have to feel everywhere they checked and the TSA worker got a nice handful of poop ;D No idea why I dreamed that, we're not flying anywhere any time soon, probably just on overload from all the clips of people complaining.

Y'know, if I wanted to blow up a plane, I wouldn't try to board it from an American city. Security is too high here. Why not board from a foreign city where security isn't as tight?
These pat downs and body scanners are just theater. This isn't about keeping us safe, it's about money and degrading our civil liberties even further.
-
It's obvious that this is ridiculous as everyone agrees. My question is what is going to happen with this garbage since it gets such huge protests?
-
Nothing. People will be ticked about it for awhile, the government will repeat claims of "we have intelligence that terrorists are (insert whatever scheme,)" and people will say "well, we have to be kept safe." It'll become normal.
I'd say Osama is doing an excellent job of destroying this country, with a more-than-able assist from those in power here and their useful idiots.

animikokala, Cleveland Hopkins does have them and have since July. I don't know about Burke though. There are only working scanners at 2 (out of the their 12) security checkpoints. I just went through one a month ago.

Hmm...I wonder if only certain checkpoints in most of the airports have them now. I flew from Cleveland->Nashville and back again in October and didn't encounter one of the scanners at either airport.

I don't think it's too much of a bad idea to go as far as they are going now with pat downs and xray scanners but I do have a problem with
is the people that work in security at the airports and other employees have real bad attitude problems and are very rude for no reason
at all what so ever. They should be ashamed of themselves treating and talking to people any kind of ways especialy when people
are paying alot of money to fly. I travel all the time about few times a year at least and I've seen and been talked to any kind of ways
at airports and the bad thing is that you can't say anything about it or they will cause you worse treatment and delay you from your flight
and etc.... ya what is going on with good manners and respect to consumers these days or it this a new government rule that we don't know
about , who doesn't comply just give them hell or just take all their rights from them since the constitution has no meaning anymore.
