Title: Bad gifts
Post by: jneff0603 on November 20, 2010, 12:44:22 pm
What do you do with those "what were they thinking?!" presents? Are you one to thank them and hide it in the back of a closet? Do you immediately return it to any store willing to take it back? Or do you let a few months pass and then regift it to someone who might actually like it?

I think first I would try to return it if at all possible, if that does not work hide in a closet or next Christmas....Or you can play a game like we do , everyone brings a wrapped gift, all go in a pile then we pick numbers to see who goes first, then one by one we select a gift then at the end when all gifts are open again numbers are picked to see you goes first to trade with anyone else all choices are final then finally a speed round happens timer set on say 5-10 minutes all gifts get passed from one to one around when timer stops then you are stuck with what is in front of you. It is fun to do sounds like it takes lots of time but not really and next year you have a gift to give. We actually had a painted branch that kept coming back. Great family fun. Try it Enjoy

Well, what constitutes a bad gift to you? To me the only thing that I don't like to receive is a gift card. I feel that they are far to impersonal. Anything else I'd save and pack away. You have to be careful when you re-gift things..... Chances are if you didnt like it, neither willl the person that you are giving it to. What if they re-gift it? I can honestly tell you that I gave someone a gift that I got back 6 people later. Thank god I like neon green fuzzy purses....

What about a garage sale? Or anonymous on ebay? Its quite depressing if you ever find out that someone or (in my case) several someones re-gift your present.

I would return it, or eBay it, or possibly give it to a friend.  For some reason, people used to give me tons of journals, though I don't keep one and never have.  Luckily, I knew many people fond of writing.

How do you return an item to a store when it was given to you as a gift without a store receipt? ??? The best gifts are usually from the heart with some thought. I usually don’t give away something that was given to me as a wrapped gift and gratefully accepted them. If it is something that is unpractical or serves me no use (e.g. like a bottle of champagne), yes I would give it to someone who could appreciate and use them after a long period of time have passed.  :peace:

I am really not sure. I got one gift that I had no use for and my daughter broke it so it was the perfect excuse to have to get rid of it. I have recieved other gifts such as the NuWave that I have only used a few times mainly because its more of a hassel to get out that a fry pan is.
