You should have been able to transfer your phone number to the new company. There is paperwork to fill out before you cancel your old service that the new service should have told you about. AT&T advertises internet that doesn't require phone service so you should have been able to switch. Did you let the new phone company take care of switching you over instead of calling AT&T yourself?

Wow that is horrible....I can't believe ATT didn't mention keeping your old number. But the internet is like part of ATT services that is why it was unavailable to you. Which again ATT was suppose to tell you that information. ::)

When we moved we tried phone service through our cable company; Time Warner. We had to drop it along with much of our cable service when my husband got laid off....because we were in a 2 yr contract (20 months into) they charged us a $90 cancellation fee. I will never sign another contract with them again. You have to really watch many of these utility companies and hidden fees they charge.
