Ok, I'm 18. I did not really even what bills were until the beginning of this year (2010). Before that, my parents took care of every one of my needs, so I never had to worry about anything. When I turned 18, (a couple months ago), I got acquainted with bills! (Internet, phone, etc.... and the money was coming out of my funds!) It felt good! I don't know if it was the feeling of responsibility and adulthood, but it just felt good paying my own bills!
So tell me, How did you feel when you started paying your own bills?
-
I moved out on my own when I was 16 and paid all my bills.

Lol, youth. Bills aren't fun especially if you have too many of them or can't afford to pay all of them. You'll learn that lesson soon enough and paying bills won't be fun any more then you'll be wishing mommy and daddy would take care of you again. Some bills are necessary evils, it's the price we pay to live in society and to have the things we want. I do my best to limit my bills and try to save as much as I can on the ones I do have.

It's just too long ago to remember.............

That was many years ago, but I still remember the pride inside and it felt good. Even today, the fact that my bills are all paid on time with money left over is a source of pride. I just hope all my kids get there soon.

Good for you oldbuddy! That is something too many parents do not try to teach their youngsters, how to handle their money.

That's exactly how I have been feeling these days!

Have have been paying for all my own stuff since I first got a job. It feels great because I know there are a lot of people who get stuff handed to them from their parents for as long as they can. I can't stand that!

8) I feel like a responsible person paying my own bills..

I remember when I started paying bills I had a lot of pride that I was able to finally able to pay my own way. But that was years ago. I have found that with my son that it is also a learning experience that everyone needs to learn sooner rather then later. We started making our son help pay his own way as soon as he started getting money for anything. Not big things just little but I think it has helped him learn to to be responsiable for himself and when he as little he used to be so funny walking up with this wallet and got to pay for something. So I think being able to pay your own way helps build yourself esteem.

Yea there is a pride in paying your own bills and living by yourself! But I miss the days were I just had to worry about homework!!!

i don't enjoy paying bills, but i do feel a sense of accomplishment when i'm able to make a bigger purchase (like a new vehicle, etc.).

I don’t remember how I felt, I just paid them. I usually pay my bills (esp. credit card bills) all at once and never the minimum. As long as I’m not in a heavy debt, I’m alright. I monitor where money is spent. I eliminate extra luxuries and other unnecessary entertainment that I don’t need. I remember the moment after I acquired my car, two years later I paid off the entire balance and it felt very good like a heavy burden was lifted off my shoulder. :D Congratulations on becoming an adult!
