What do you feel is the appropriate age for a child to have a cell phone?
When they can pay the bill themselves.
-
I think 16 years of age.
-
I have no clue. Nowadays I see little kids walkin around talkin on their own cell phones. I guess it's just a judgment call.
-
Someone before me said 16...that sounds good. I think whenever they start being away from home a good bit without you is a good age. Generally when they start driving.
-
i got my first phone @ 12 but i needed it to make sure i could get rides home when i needed it. so i guess if you feel like ur child needs one get one. and you can always get one of the children cell phones too
-
I prefer to give them whenever necessary. Mostly the appropriate time would when drive their vehicle. Safety is first, to ensure the child has reached the destination safely and also if any problem comes they can use the phone.

Well I myself do not have kids so can not really say, however, my cousin has two girls and they both have phones, 15 and 13. Guess I would say its up to the parents.
-
junior age is when we bought our kids cell phones to keep tabs on them in event of emergencies or they need to be picked up from somewhere.
-
I say the ages 12, 13, 14, and 15 would be the most appropriate for a child to have a cell phone (at 16 they are able to buy their own). That would be a good age for a child to have a cell phone for emergencies, for the parent to check up on them(to make sure everything is ok), and etc. I guess it is really up to the parent, nowadays they are getting them early.

I think it depends on the situation. my son had a cell phone when he was 11 me and his dad are divorced and I wanted to be able to get ahold of him without having to go thru his dad(we dont get along) my daughter wants one now but she is only 7 I Just laughed at her and told her to get back to me in a couple of years.

maybe 13 so they can check in and u can actually hear their voice telling u they got to their destination alright.
-
i say in 6th or 7th grade when they need one
-
Whenever they start driving and not until then.
-
i think it all depends, becuz there are some kids that are like 11 years old and they have cell phones.
-
I would say 16. But a tracphone is always a good place to start. That way there is no monthly bill.
I didn't have a phone until I was 17, and that was because I was paying the bill myself.
-
I think it depends. When they are out with friends and away from the house a lot, then maybe it is a good idea to get them one. Also it would depend perhaps on the child's maturity. They certainly don't need a fancy one that could ring up a big bill until they pay for it themselves. Unless of course you are willing to trade paying the bill to have all of the features in exchange for good grades.:)
-
I think maturity level has a lot to do with it especially if it is a plan with limited minutes. Maybe start with a pay to talk phone with no fancy bells and whistles. If they can handle that responsibility they can then get on the family plan and get a phone upgrade.
-
12 for the simple fact that you NEED to keep in contact with your kid at all times in this day and age.
-
I used to say that there would be no reason for a child to have one until they were old enough to have a job or drive. However... there really is no such thing as payphones anymore, so in case of emergency, I would say the same age that you allow your child to go somewhere without adult supervision.
No set age.
-
I would say 16.

I think it all depends on the maturity of the child. And sometimes, parents, it really does simplify your life if your child has a phone no matter what age. If they are in sports or at friends houses a lot its easier to keep in touch.
