What do sports (players, etc.) contribute to society as a whole? Would love to hear your thoughts on this. I feel like sports are a complete waste. The money that is spent could better be used. But i realize that is my opinion, which is why i would love to hear others!

Hmm, No responses. Well, I will discuss it anyway. lol. I feel like money is thrown at pros and colleges for sports and that it could better be used. What are they really providing? It is striclty entertainment, but they reap fame and fortune.

I think people take sports stars too seriously, and that they get paid too much. However, do they contribute to society? I would say yes. People need entertainment, things to enjoy, either watching or playing. Sports provide that. They are far more than simply entertainment though. Sports, in my opinion, contribute to culture and help to create cultural bonds between different people.

I think sports players are getting paid more than they should, but I agree sports can provide entertainment. Cheer leading, even if they can do the same thing, is the complete waste.

Well in my opinion, and this is just me, if you look at what sports players do and how they put their bodies on the line they deserve what they get paid. Plus on the other hand they entertain many people. I am on the side of the professional sports players. ;D :icon_rr:

I love watching the marvel of the talents of athletes. Many athletes have contributed money to charities, have camps for children, etc. If you have a problem with the salaries they make then maybe you should ask yourself, who is paying for the salaries of the athletes? I have no problem with it...in fact I am happy for them to be able to earn the kind of money they make.
