I use to get my mom to do them, until I start useing Turbo tax on line. And I get my tax return faster. How do you do your taxes and does it cost you?
-
I do them myself. Last year I had someone who specializes in taxes for my field because I thought I could get more money back, waste of money so now I will go back to doing them myself.
-
I do my husband's and my taxes. I also do my brother's and his wife's for them. Plus I do my parents' taxes. They used to take them out to have them done, and since I do them for them now, they are saving that money. Plus, last year when I did my parents taxes, I got them a larger refund because they didn't realize there were things they could itemize so they never took that paperwork with them.

I do my taxes at home with a tax program I have used for years and electronically file them too.
-
My stepfather uses Turbotax to do our taxes online. The only cost is the cost of buying Turbotax.
-
I do my taxes myself. After years working with one of the top tax company. If you take your time and read all the updated information on the IRS website anyone can do their own taxes. :notworthy:
-
I do my own taxes, doesn't cost me a penny ;D ... does it cost you ?
-
Me and TurboTax and it's in the mail (we couldn't do it electronically this year... bummer, but next year we'll be able to...
-
I have done it myself every year. This year. I have begun it on line with Turbo Tax because my taxes are a little more complicated this year. I do not know if I will stick with Turbo Tax or go back to doing it myself and save the money. I like Turbo Tax but I also like having it on paper. And I like saving the money.

I use a taxes person to do mine because of the farm income. It takes a little time. I usually get money back.
-
I do them myself.

I usually have a tax accountant prepare my income tax annually and the service is not free. I rather seek professional help than to make mistakes. There are service centers that offer free income tax filing for low income families and the elderly. Those are sponsored by the IRS as they are prepared by volunteers and are reviewed by actual IRS agents before submission.

I do my own taxes. I have used several softwares, but really lie H & R Block. Seemed to maximize my refund.

I usually do my taxes with turbo tax. This year I am using taxcut since no charge for extra forms. Schedule C should be free. I need to get started. If anyone has used taxcut, plz share your experience.
-
I do our income taxes, along with my parents and nieces taxes. I use tax software that I purchase every year. Some times I double check myself. But find that I can get the same results as if I have someone else do them. I think that if you are comfortable with doing them then you should but if you have any problem or not comfortable doing them you should have someone else do them.

Me and my husband went to Jackson Hewitt and we got our refund back on Friday the 11th of feb

My mother does my taxes every year till i found out she was pocketing all my refunds due to fact i forget all about it in the first place my fault i guess!
-
I do them myself using TurboTax Online, and have never had a problem.
-
My husband does our taxes with Turbo Tax. Since we retired a few years ago, our taxes are much simpler to file and the refund is much quicker. Yay!!!!
-
I always do my own on paper. Mine are never very complicated.
-
I do our familes taxes by using Turbo Tax. I have been using it for 10 plus years. 6 years ago I got a copy of Tax Cut, and I had a hard time following it. Maybe it was because I was used to Turbo Tax.
-
I use one of the free online services. My sister is a corporate tax expert and used to do mine for free. However, she gets very conservative in allowing deductions for her little brother. It gets a little old, when you are 45!!!!!! Which reminds me, I have to get those done sometime soon.
-
I've been doing mine myself online using TaxAct website. This year I'm considering hiring a professional due to having purchased a house - want to make sure I'm claiming everything correctly - but now I'm thinking I'll do them myself again.
-
i do myself my taxes and if you want i do for you hahaha but you mut pay me hahahha ;D

I use TurboTax myself.

Taxes are not hard to do. Have you ever baked a cake? Now that is hard to do. How about assembled a bicycle? Again, something that is hard to do. One of my pet peeves is H & R Block (and clones). Ripoff? They get a lot of low income families that cannot afford to pay the $100, $200 and even $300 to have someone prepare their taxes. They and other such companies prey on the low income families that want to get their tax refund in a hurry. And sadly our government help supplement these vultures. Just follow the directions one line at a time. Most Americans can use the 1040EZ or the 1040A. Most do not need to or can't itemize their deductions. You bake me a cake and I'll do your taxes.
-
I now do my own taxes. For the past 4yrs I have been doing them. I am so glad. I use a really good software, take my time and avoid getting ripoff.(Lol)Before then i was going to Jackson Hewitt faithfully. Until I realize what a waste of money. May the door hit you in the back(cause they never saw me again). HA! HA! HA!

I do my own taxes ;D This was my first year filing as an "independent," so it took a little longer. However, I didn't find the process that overwhelming. In fact, I found it more of a learning experience. Before, I always did my own taxes because I was filing a 1040EZ, and honestly, it takes... five minutes to complete? There's nothing difficult about it. You merely fill out your personal information, your income, make your standard deduction and compare how much you "should have" paid to how much you actually paid.
The 1040 took a little while longer. I received a 1099 INT from ING Direct. I have one of their high-yield savings accounts, so I made enough money in interest for it to be included within my "taxable income." And I received multiple forms from my student loan lenders. I had to add the amount from the 1099 INT to the amounts in my W2s, which was only about $104, so it didn't do that much damage. I was able to deduct $2,500 for my student loans, as well as the "standard" deduction! It was really interesting. I never THOUGHT about my taxes until this year. I realized that you want your taxable income to be as small as possible so the amount you SHOULD have been taxed is quite smaller than the amount you actually paid.
I even tried doing an "itemized" deduction instead of the "standard." I had about $6 taken out of my paycheck every month for quite some time as a donation to United Way. I only ended up donating about $240. And since I don't have medical insurance, I tried adding up the cost of my Dr's appointments and medications, but the total wasn't nearly the standard deduction of $5,700, so I didn't bother with the itemized.
I also took advantage of the "making work pay" credit.
Usually, my return is only a few hundred, but this year it was $614 thanks to my student loan interest deduction and the making work pay credit :D Plus I did them online using the Free Fillable Forms website. AND I used direct deposit for my return. I received the amount in about 1.5 weeks.

I had always paid to have mine done - the year I bought a house, I paid to have them done, the CPA made numerous mistakes which I caught (luckily) he then charged me a small fee for making the corrections after I had already paid him. Then I started doing my own. My daughter married a CPA - needless to say he done them for free. Now I am on disability & don't have enough income to file. I find that odd since I do have a lot of medical bills, my tithing to church & small donations to chartities. I find this unfair.

I buy the tax program and do it myself. Saves $$$$$ and tax preparers don't know all your business.
-
;D I go to a professional Tax place to get my taxes done. I hve a couple of friends who went to a hole in the wall to get their taxes done. The people that worked there told them a date to come back and pick up their tax return checks; they went back and low and behold the company was gone. They took off with the checks and my friends had to call the I.R.S. and report them. So, not only did they learn a valuable lesson but I did also. You just can't trust every Tom, *bleep*, and Harry to do the right thing when it comes to your money. Just because the sign reads Professional Tax Service doesn't mean squat. Look for CREDINALS!!! :peace:

TurboTax here, very easy to use.

I've always done my tax prep work. I developed a spreadsheet program that ties the several schedules I use to each other and the Form 1040.
The only cumbersome part of this is having to rework the schedules every year to match change from the IRS -- but at least that way I read the forms.
I've thought of using Turbo Tax etal, but I suspect that my Schedule D reporting would be beyond the capacity of those programs. (Lots of stock sales that involve wash sales. Messy reporting. ) I've avoid professional tax preparers for the same reason.

Turbo Tax... each year since 2006. The program is great and I've double checked with other software and it's always succeeded in getting back my interest free loan to the government.
