Title: Right Handed or Left Handed?

Most of my family is left handed. However, mom did not know dad was left handed until she saw him using a hammer. 5 years after they were married! He always denied that he was left handed LOL.

Post by: kapeh12 on February 17, 2011, 09:32:40 pm: I'm kind of ambidextrous. I tend to do finer things, like writing, crochet and eating, with my left hand. But do coarser things - golf, throwing a ball, cutting with a scissors - with my right hand.

I can write with my right hand, it just looks like I'm in elementary school. I know if I put some time and practice into it, I'd be able to write as well as I do with my left - I just don't put in the time.

There are days when I go to brush my hair and I get a little confused - because I use both hands for brushing. Some days neither hand feels correct, others I just pass the brush from one hand to the other without thinking.

I'm the only person I know who drives with just their left hand...maybe that's because I'm not a smoker, so my left hand doesn't need to be out the window to flick ash. I'm also the only one I know who plays guitar left handed. Everyone always looks at me weird when I tell them I play left. And get even stranger looks at times when I say I'm ambidextrous. But it really just depends on what I'm doing as to what hand (or foot) I use. My youngest sister is left handed, with a tiny bit of right mixed in.

I don't really like it, though :- When I was a kid, I had a really hard time using a can opener because I didn't have much strength in my right hand - since, you know, I didn't use it very often. My mom used to make fun of me for it :P Eating and writing was sometimes difficult because if I was sitting next to a right-handed person, we would sometimes bump elbows. And I had to angle my paper a certain way and hold my pencil a certain way so I wouldn't get graphite all over my hand as it smeared across what I was writing...

But I can't throw with my left. Weird, huh? When I was in PE class in elementary school, they devoted a couple classes to throwing. We had to line up and go trough the moves of how to properly throw a ball - you know, the step forward and follow-through move? Well, I was the only left-handed kid in class, and it was too hard for me to follow the directions when everyone else was doing it differently from me. So I said, "Screw it," and just started throwing with my right hand so I didn't have to do it all backwards and get confused. But, because of that, I can't play tennis with my left hand, either.
