Title: Speaking of Education....

Recently our state began appointing DOE (Department of Education) board members? How is your DOE structured and do you feel it should be am appointed or elected position?

I'm not sure how the DOE is structured in Virginia.  I have not had a child in school for several years (although that is no excuse), so I have not kept up on the educational system.  I am appalled sometimes, though, at the kids who graduate from high school - and college - who can neither read nor write.  It is SO sad.
