Title: Do electronic mice go bad?
Post by: swogden on April 06, 2011, 06:54:29 pm: I bought several wireless mice within the last 18 months and one of them is acting up -- doesn't respond when I click it, moves slowly or not at at all when I move it around.

Is there any way to correct this or is the only solution to toss it and get a new one?

The problem mouse is a Lofitech requiring 2 AA batteries (recently changed -- no improvement). Use it for my desktop PC with Windows XP.

I also have another wireless mouse I use for my Windows 7 laptop (Logitech with one battery) that is working fine -- at the moment.

When they stopped working, I tried replacing the batteries but they still didn't work so it was a mad rush to go buy another one to finish whatever I had been working on...now I buy them ahead when they are on sale and always keep a spare "just in case" so when they die it's easy to just take out the new one and keep working. :thumbsup:

Good thought! I usually get my stuff at Staples, but I've been thinking of trying the internet/Amazon to see if I could get them cheaper. Buying a spare sounds pretty reasonable right now.

Post by: foreverinlove05 on April 08, 2011, 09:03:24 am: my boyfriend probably had the same mouse you're talking about for his computer. the first one he bought died for some unknown reason after a few months of use, then he bought another one and didn't have any problems with it. generally they probably do go bad after a while as with other electronics. i have a microsoft mouse for my laptop and i've dropped idk how many times and it's still holding on lol.

YES they do go bad, but check the battery first.

I've been reading feedback on wireless mice online and one suggestion is that the reception between the receiver and the mouse might be distorted by distance and other electronis interference. Have to test that. Distance should not be the issue, but I do use my other mouse at the same time and in the same room as the desktop mouse.

Different related issue: I've checked out prices on the internet and they range from around $30 down to $10 per mouse. Any reason why the cheaply sold mouse might not be as reliable as the higher price one. All are Logitech, but different models.
Hate to buy a cheap mouse and find out it didn't include the set-up disc.
