Title: should women go dutch on the first date? and why?
Post by: lwill143 on April 20, 2011, 02:43:45 pm
I feel that if the man is taking the woman he should foot the bill.

Personally I'm of the opinion that whomever did the asking should pay. I am always prepared to foot my portion of the bill or I wouldn't go but even when I go out with my friends we usually take turns paying rather than try to split up the bill. :)

My fiancee paid for me on our first date. Of course I was a very poor college student and he knew that i was going to be able to pay for the meal. Besides he was making 3,000 every 2 weeks when I met him and now due to the economy his paychecks are getting cut. But i certainly pay for things for him now. with me working I am able to pay for meals for him.

I feel dutch is good if its a casual date with friends. If its an intimate date with a male or female  I feel the person should foot the bill. If and only if its a committed relationship. Just my opinion.

Dutch treat is kind of funny.  I work in an academic setting with some very liberated women.  They want/demand all of the equality of men in the workplace and elsewhere. (Don't blame them).    However, most of them want the man to pay for the date, open the door, etc.   I guess courtship causes the rules to be changed.  LOL   :dontknow:

I agree , whoever asks should be the one to pay.

I haven't bee on a first date in twenty years and the rules of engagement have changed considerably since then. Two decades ago the man would have paid for all dates without question but dates were usually bouts of drinking with hopes of getting lucky when one of the parties would let their guard down.  With today's computer match ups, a shift towards introductory coffee dates, and women beginning to take more leadership positions in the work force I believe that the pay for your date question has shifted into making dutch an acceptable choice.
