What does that mean ( Rapture)?

It's a cooky religious idea that christians will be sent up to heaven while all of the reasonable people die off because they didn't accept one god out of the other millions. In my opinion, it's just a guilt-tripping tactic to force a belief system onto someone-- "If you don't believe what I believe, you'll be tormented for eternity! Enlist now!" It's also the name of an underwater city in the game "Bioshock".

Here is a more intellegent answer to your question:

rap·ture
   [rap-cher] noun, verb -tured, -tur·ing.

–noun
1.
ecstatic joy or delight; joyful ecstasy.

2.
Often, raptures. an utterance or expression of ecstatic delight.

3.
the carrying of a person to another place or sphere of existence.

4.
the Rapture, Theology . the experience, anticipated by some fundamentalist Christians, of meeting Christ midway in the air upon his return to earth.

5.
Archaic . the act of carrying off.

As they say about scoffers, they will be left behind....

Quite an accurate graph. Kind of sad how so many have hoped for this beautiful world to end.  :-[

Most people that believe in the rapture aren't "hoping" the beautiful world will end as they don't believe the world will be "ending".  There is a difference of opinion as to when the rapture will happen but the Bible doesn't say that right after the rapture, the world will end.

I would think the "rapture" would be the one event in the Bible that would please EVERYONE because it's a "win-win" for everyone.  As beautiful as this world has been, Christians look forward to "being transferred to the home office".   Non-believers have repeatedly stated their dis-like, anger and hatred for Believers so I would think they would be happy to finally know that they are gone and won't be bothering them anymore.  There  won't be any Believers in the public schools, or in the government, the churches will be empty, no one left to be saying an unwelcome prayer for them anymore, and noone to debate God with in the d&d anymore.  :P  Non-believers have done their best to try and remove God from the schools, from the money, from America and the rapture is God doing His BEST to remove "all things that belong to Him" from the earth...so the rapture event should be a time of rejoicing for everybody!!

Those that have such a hard time being a Christian now while times are "easy" and miss the rapture...they are going to find it extremely difficult to try to be a Christian AFTER the rapture.  It won't be impossible but it won't be a world where anyone with any hope of Christianity will wish to be left in.  It seems to me to almost be a transition period for the generation of people who would of had the most in technology, the best education/knowledge & scientific advances available...the generation that had the BEST of everything (there could be no possible excuse of "ignorance" from this generation that has had it all)  to choose whom they will serve after they have been given everything & every chance...because the "state" of the world after the rapture will only be a small taste of the hell that awaits the last breath one takes, if they haven't chosen to serve the Lord.

Every person is interesting in their own way, just because they decide to follow Jesus doesn't mean they instantly become "uninteresting".  Heaven isn't going to be full of nothing but "Ned Flanders" stereo-types---  there isn't ONE "Ned Flanders" type mentioned anywhere in the Bible.

First off, let me color this by saying I'm a Christian.  That being said, the rapture is a crazy idea that some people will get brought straight up to heaven while everyone else suffers when the world supposedly ends, which itself is a crazy idea because the world will not end.  The idea of a rapture has no Biblical support, and by Christian standards isn't even theologically sound (God does not play favorites, all are loved equally).

Do "nonbelievers" include Jews and Muslims?

I don't think you got my point really- I wasnt targetting a specific group. It was that there are billions of people who excel in the 'interesting' category, help others, and are kind that disregard religion totally or are of a different faith that is unparalleled to any of the 3 abrahamic religions. Heaven is going to only be full of a specific group of people that changes highly from one persons perspective to the other which, in reasonable terms, is just silly. Example? I'm sure you've seen stuff like this before-

"People only go to heaven if they accepted Jesus before they die even if they've done horrible things."
"People only go to heaven if they accepted Jesus before they die even if they haven't done horrible things."
"People only go to heaven if they've spread the word of Christ"
"People only go to heaven if they were baptized"
"Heaven is only for a specific low # of people who will govern the earth after armageddon"
"People go to heaven if they've done _______ even if they weren't aware of my god"
etc. etc. etc.

Why does it bother so many people that don't believe in Christ what we believe about the rapture? If you son't believe in it then don't worry about it, but I will continue to pray that one day you will accept Christ as your Savior.I don't believe in a religion but Christ. I know I will be raptured when the time comes and I do look forward to it.

The rapture (and similar things in non-christian religions) is like the saddest thing ever in christian religion. It's like the biblical version of that strange boy everyone knew back in school who lied about an uncle who was an ex navy seal and worked for Nintendo, and when you'd poke fun at him for his obvious lies, he'd tell you that his uncle would bring him the 'Super Nintendo II' with all the awesome games in the coming weekend and then you're gonna be sorry you ever poked fun at him. That's basically the rapture for these nutcases. I'm sorry dudes, Jesus wont show up and save you from all these smug normal people who enjoyed their lives while they where living."

Oh and this-

falconer:  Thanks so much for clarifying, I had totally missed your point mainly because as a Christian...I am so used to the typical stereo-type based remarks that I always feel on the "defense".   Your thoughts were/are appreciated.  I do enjoy your posts you know.

Everyone else:  I think Heaven will be everything God has said it will be and it will be for those He has said it will be for.  I didn't write the Book, I just believe what it says.  Regarding the rapture, I've heard pastors argue over whether or not it's Biblical or a possible error in translation.  They have differing opinions on whether Christians will be raptured before the Tribulation, mid-way through, or at the end.  (The Tribulation period is NOT referred to as "the end of the world".)  My opinion is if there is a rapture, whenever it should occur (if it even does) then Christians should make sure they are living their lives the way God intended so as to not be left behind and that includes having some concern and compassion for those that clearly aren't ready for it.  I think the "bragging" need to be tossed aside, EVERYONE is only one Jesus away from Hell.  Make Jesus really happy and spend more time being an effective witness, and being kind to others.    I don't believe in the "once you're saved, you're always saved" theory.  It's just my personal thought but I think if a person was sincerely saved in the first place then their life's example would always leave no room for doubt.

If there is no rapture then so what, my words of advice then is the same for everyone and that would be "prepare to die".   People make plans for every other stage of their life.  Noone is even guaranteed their next breath.  If someone is worried about meeting up with the death angel today, then it's a sure sign their "next-life" plan needs some work.   Jesus is coming--look busy!    ;)

Our beliefs are on the same line.  Thank you for the positive posts for the Lord.  Seems like most people only want to jump on the opportunity to bash God and Jesus.  I hope to meet up with you to visit when we get to heaven.

 I look forward to meeting up with you too and it's my hope to meet up with all the others on FC as well.  (Sometimes I can't wait and I think how awesome it would be if FC arranged an annual discount cruise package for a week or something just for ONLY FC members & their families so we could all meet each other but then I see how everyone is "not getting along" on the forums and that cruise thing is probably not a good idea...I think there would probably be quite a few members "missing" before a week was up.  ;D)

Rapture?  I'm pretty sure that's a late 70's or early 80's tune by Blondie.  Aah Deborah Harry.  Saw her in concert at the Five Seasons Center in Cedar Rapids Iowa around 1980 or '81.  Either she looked really good, or I was really drunk!  Oh, now I remember, it was both  ;)  Go Blondie go!
