Title: Leftovers from a restaurant meal
Post by: sommap on June 12, 2011, 10:55:36 am
Do you bring home leftovers when you eat at a restaurant?  I don't mean a fast food place.  My granddaughter always leaves about half of her meal.  She says she doesn't eat leftovers, so I usually end up taking ithome.  With what my daughter and my granddaughter left on their plates yesterday, I have two meals of my own.  I am not poor and don't have to have them so I can eat, but I hate wasting good food when I paid good money for it.

Since I live alone, I also eat lots of my own leftovers.  It is not easy to cook for just one.  I sometimes get 3 or 4 meals when I cook once.  Thank goodness for the microwave.

If there is enough food left, we bring back leftovers all the time. Even if we don't end up eating it, we can usually feed the dog with whatever meat is left over.

If my wife and I can't finish all of our meal we bring it home and the next day take it for lunch at work, or have it for dinner.

It sounds like your granddaughter is a spoiled little brat who always gets what she wants. You or her parents need to put the foot down and not let her order so much if she is just going to waste it. And if she doesn't eat it all, make her take it home. She needs ot understand now she cannot waste food that costs good money! That makes me so mad when kids do that crap and the parents don't do anything about it!

I always keep leftovers, I used to work in a restaurant as a busser and was shocked at how much food people left on their plates to be thrown away. Almost entire meals went to waste! I remember a few times when I was bringing back plates that were almost untouched the dishwasher at the time looked at them and said, "god damn man, thats a huge waste of food, look thats a whole sandwich right there. Gimme that, I'll eat it. I'm not letting this bad boy go to waste!" I laughed and occasionally followed her custom, typically with desserts and other things that I knew for sure the customer didn't touch.

Yes. I do! Take a small plastic container with a lid to carry out your leftovers and save on your food bill!

Heck yeah I take the leftovers with me.  I have no problem eating leftovers.  I will eat leftovers for 4 or five days if I have to.  I don't like wasting food or money.

I bring them home, I don't want to waste food, cos there are still a lot of people who don't have food to eat, not only in America, especially in Africa. so save food, don't waste.

I really don't like to waste food. I work in the food industry and it really is horrible how much has to be thrown out because of health reasons and company policies. So I usually do take leftovers home, but if its really bad food I just leave it. Well... I have taken the bad food (bad meaning bland or too salty, etc) and given them to a homeless person.

Main point is. We really shouldn't waste any food. ESPECIALLY IN BUFFETS!!! SAMPLE FIRST BEFORE GETTING A PLATE!

sommap - I support you in regards to taking home leftovers!! Dining out is costly and seeing leftover food disgusts me. Food is meant to be eaten...not thrown away. I throw away food if it goes bad (I don't eat food past expiration dates!), but I do my best to both manage my diet and not be wasteful.

I bring any leftovers home for my husbands lunch the following day .... unless we are away from home or not going home for hours, in that case it wouldn't be safe to keep the leftovers unrefrigerated.

I'm a college student living on my own. I eat leftovers all the time...they are the best! When money is tight leftovers are the only thing I can really have. I love leftovers from Olive Garden though...they are my favorite :)

I always eat leftovers from a restaurant unless I really didn't like the food to begin with. However I have more of an issue eating my own leftovers from each meal. I tend to forget it or my boyfriend eats it. Sometimes I remember to stick it in the freezer so I can eat it much later.

I definitely take leftovers home. I often see leftovers left by customers at the restaurant. It is truly disheartening to see people waste food like that when every plate meticulously takes time for the kitchen staff to prepare. As one person casually waste food as we speak, someone dies from starvation. >:( That deducts merit. People have every right to take food home when they paid for it unless the food doesn’t suit their taste bud.

I take home leftovers all the time and eat it the next day for lunch. :) The only time I don't is when I can't get it back to the fridge in a reasonable amount of time. I paid for that food and I'm going to eat it! And I don't mind leftovers, they make good lunches or a pot luck night where everyone can eat all the leftovers from the last few days. I have a hard time cooking for less people and so we will usually have something left over almost every night. But it gets eaten so I don't worry too much about it.

I usally order too much and then I have to bring part of it home with me.  No use leaving it there for them to throw away.  There are so many people out there that are going hungry.

It all depends on what kind of food it is.  Because some food just dont taste good after being microwaved.

I always bring home my leftovers when I have them.  The only time I don't is when I am out somewhere and won't be returning home for a while so the food would have to sit in the car.

i wish we were better on eating leftovers. I cook dinner monday through wednesday and leave the leftovers for when I am working thursday through sunday but they dont seem to get eaten by any humans in this house most of our left overs end up in the dogs mouth. We do bring home left overs from resturants if there is enough for a meal and those also go to the dogs most of the time. :(  boyfriends check is getting cut so we really need to learn how to eat leftovers

Yes sometimes I will take leftovers from the restaurant; when I can't eat it all I can always save it for later.
