Title: What do you do when the light turns green!!
Post by: cateyes1 on June 25, 2011, 05:22:48 am
does it ever happen to you? your sitting at a red light and it finally turns green. do you start off right away? I hate when it turns green and the one behind starts sitting on their horn, all the more I just sit there...Mom and Dad always said to not start off right away in case somone is going through the red light...what do you do?  :dontknow:

it's always good to wait a sec or two - some people are just impatient - especially when the person in front of them has a stick shift (especially on a hill!)

I generally check both ways to be sure it's clear.

I always look to make sure no one is going to come through the red light. I know it would be there fault but I rather avoid the accident in the first place. I dont think It would be easy for me to get into the driver seat if I got hit while driving. it took me about 3 weeks to get in a vehicle after i was a passenger in an accident

Honestly it depends on the red light - if it's a bad one that people usually run, then I wait.  Others I'll go right through.  Normally I'm not first at a light anyway.

I'm already looking around at the other sides of the road when I see their lights turn yellow (or their crosswalk sign turn red), so I'm ready to gun it when it turns green.  Granted, the gunning it only lasts until I reach the speed limit, which always amuses my younger brothers.  My fiance complains that I drive like a granny (because I do the speed limit all the time lol ).

I took a defensive driving course to save money on insurance. One thing they said was to check the intersection and wait 3 seconds before going.

My personal philosophy about traffic lights is this,

Green means go.
Yellow means go faster.
Red means Watch this y'all.

I actually have been at a red light and the second it turned green, the guy behind me laid on his horn. I put my car in park and got out, went to his window and asked if he needed anything.

I check both ways to make sure a car is not speeding to get through the intersection.

After nearly being hit a couple times, I always check to make sure no more cars are coming through the intersection.

I am observing the other drivers and always looking around for cops that could be right behind me.  I will sometimes rescan the radio station and try to find something better on the radio...

I always give it a few seconds to make sure no one is running red light.  Which is common these days.  People just don't care about anyone but self these days when driving.  Its pretty bad when you feel like you have to be on defense to stay out of a wreck.  But have you ever noticed that sometimes  the car beside you will not move until you do first.  Watch around you its funny sometimes people in other lanes will not move until another car goes first.  Or that people drive like they walk.  Think about it.  If a person walks slow they usually drive similar to it.  Walk fast they drive fast.  Just a thought!!

I wait a few seconds before going. Lived in to many places where people will run the red lights. I've come not to care if someone beeps there horn behind me. Rather have that then a totaled car and me in the hospital. Also, I live in an area where they have green arrows that tell you to go right if they are turning left in the other lane. At that time, if they are U turning they are supposed to yeild to the car turning right. Do they? A majority don't and then they get angry at you when you tap your horn to let them know you were in the middle of your turn. Now adays I think you take a breath, wait a moment, and hope or pray you don't get hit.

If the person behind me sits on their horn, I tend to sit there even longer.

It depends on where I'm driving. If it's in my city, then I gas it off the light. If I'm in someplace I'm not familiar with, I make sure to look.

I wait for like a second and then drive off, you have to drive for yourself and others.
