They use to do it in my old neighborhood where everyone was peaceful and friendly but, if people were to do it in my current area I live in now, police and squad cars would probably show up.

No it's not just your neighborhood.I have heard them all week.I always thought you were supposed until that day.Maybe I was wrong.Who knows. But I hear more guns being shot than fireworks.
-
people will find any excuse to celebrate early :P...plus, since the holiday is actually on a Monday, people might want to celebrate early so they can stay up later (whereas they can't if they have to go to work the next day (i.e.: Monday))

They started here the last week of June. I don't know why people can't wait a few extra days. Plus I live in Utah, we get fireworks twice this month.
-
well why not? its alll gooood

i know in my area they are doing the same thing they always do that i do not know why it happenings its so loud and than it starts to rain too. well it will be over here soon.
-
here where i live you'll hear them for about 2 weeks, about a week before the 4th and for a bout a week after the 4th.
-
For the same reason they set them off 2 days AFTER the 4th... boredom, rowdiness, happiness, insanity, love of loud noises, all of the above and/or none of the above. I realize that made no sense, but that's pretty much my m.o. I'm good at it, huh?

They want to have fun, have an excuse to light up something and be cool to others.

i don't why is either they want to be the first one to set them off. are either they are not use to anything. some people just don't get it.

I think it's really to test the fireworks to see if they do work. I mean I thought buying your own fireworks was illegal in some states put it seems no matter where you go everyone's selling fireworks in a parking lot. I don't think it has anything to do with how many days before the 4th it is. I think it's like I said, to make sure they do work for the 4th.

Well I remember when I was a teenager, it's the whole anticipation thing. I used to do that, but never did all that much. It was like a weekend long party.
-
My neighborhood has been exploding things for several weeks. Usually starts around Cinco de Mayo.

I guess because the 4th of July is on a Monday, people feel they have the green light to set of fireworks all weekend! I know it's driving me crazy. My dog is so afraid of them! He paces and pants and whines, making it unbearable. I've had to sedate him with Benadryl every night this weekend. :'( Only one more night! Whew!!

I love fireworks but I completely understand. I grow up with a dog that was also terrified of the 4th of july and thunderstorms. If you can find a cool dark place without a window- bathrooms are usually the best. I feel bad that you have to sedate your dog but that mybe to kindest thing you can do for him
Hope you are able to enjoy the 4th

I've been hearing them going off for several weeks now, slowing increasing in frequency till they are going off constantly in different directions. I like it; it's like a free 4th of July show when you can see them over the tree tops. We can't set any off at out apartment, so we like seeing them from the neighboring residences that can. We're going to have to drive to Cleveland to see the big show tonight though.
-
I have been hearing & seeing them go off for the past few days too. They are illegal here too, but there have been some fairs & carnivals that have great displays during this time. :o

It's not all good, sorry. I'm as patriotic as the next person, but at a certain point it's both dangerous (illegal fireworks set fire to homes every holiday) and a public disturbance. There were explosions right over my house last night!

Yep, you are. But it's beautiful in a way, like poetry. :)

That is something my husband and I was talking about last night. We have had people all around us this weekend setting them off and it will be even worse tonight. I love to see them but hate how long they go on into the night when I am trying to go to sleep. I guess it is a way for some to let off some stress ;D

It is tradition around here that a lot of the big fireworks displays are on the night of July 3. They get a lot more people out at 10:00 at night if they don't have to get up in the morning.
-
People near me have been doing fireworks for over a week now. It scares my cats, so I'll be happy when it's over.
-
I guess it is BECAUSE THEY JUST CAN'T WAIT TO GET THEIR STUPID ON !!
The only kind of fireworks that I like are the colorful display ones in the sky. The firecrackers and cherry bombs are JUST PLAIN STUPID!!

It has happened in my neighborhood too. There has been a few Saturday night, and Sunday night.
