Why does the kids of today feel they need to drink to have a good time? I know soooo many young peeps that the first thing they do when they get that check in hand is to go buy booze, ENQUIRY minds would like to know :dontknow:

I believe it's peer pressure, that or they are not wise.

True. It's sad how exposed teens and kids are to everything (I'm a teen as well...but...I just know that that is not my place.)

Kids of today? This is nothing new. People have been doing that for centuries.

Honestly, I believe it has to do with the parenting. When kids are strictly banned from anything, including alcohol, it just makes them want it more. When I was growing up, I was allowed a drink here or there. And today, I don't have a desire for alchohol like some of the other people around my age. My husband's parents were like that...they always said if any of their kids were caught underage drinking, they would kick their butts. And now, at least one of their kids has a drinking problem. Well maybe if they let him have a couple beers back in the day, he wouldn't want it so bad now.

I use to smoke and drink only because of my older brothers. It didn't have anything to do with my parents even though I only have one parent now. I don't drink anymore after getting sick to my stomach by drinking too many beers in one night. It was my 1st time drinking any beer and it don't taste all that great anyways. I use to smoke like a train for 4yrs and I'm glad I quit smoking a few years ago.

Good question! I don't drink & i still have a good time when I go out. I think drinking alcohol is a waist of money.

good for you, and yes a big waist

I think just because a lot of music and movies glorify drinking and young kids see that as being cool, so they want to try it.
-
i guess they like to feel out of control so they can have more sex and it can feel much better.

I think that a lot of young people drink because it is a novelty to them. For many, once they realize that they are throwing their hard-earned money away, they don't do it as much. When you
are young, lots of times you want to experience everything, especially those things that you were forbidden from doing when you were a child. Wisdom and temperance comes with age and experience (USUALLY).

I think a lot of it is just experimentation. Taking drugs, having sex, partying, etc.. are all ways to experiment with your boundaries and discover who you are as a person. I don't think there is anything wrong with that as long as it is done in a safe way and they are aware of the risks involved. I think the more you prohibit a behavior the more likely a person is to do that behavior. In countries where drinking alcohol isn't a big deal you don't get teens trying to binge drink themselves to death or becoming habitual drinkers. It is a parents job to inform but ultimately the teen will make the decision. Hopefully it won't kill them and they will learn valuable lessons from it.
I drank before I was legal but I did it with close friends in their homes. I wasn't out driving or in a sleazy neighborhood. I had a place to sleep and was around people I trusted. I have only drank on occasion a few times a year during the holidays or get-togethers. It is a nice addition but not necessary to have a good time.
