Title: How often do you use your print screen and does it work?
Post by: MichelleHW101 on August 29, 2011, 10:10:46 am
Love my HP Pavillion but it’s got copyright issues.  Any time I play a game on my Vaios I could have just hit the print screen button and it would have taken a snapshot.  On my Pavillion it won’t let me.  That’s fine if the game comes with an allowance for you to take snapshots like Sims medieval you hit the ‘c’ key and got it but Dragon Age, nope.  I gotta shrink the screen and then hit the shift first and then print screen (even though print screen is the main button).  I don’t plan on violating any copyright laws but sometimes I just want a pic of what I’m playing and it’s just a pain to have to do it this way.  Not to mention all the extra work that goes into it with cropping and stuff I have to do later.

Hi, I'm not sure if this will help any, and/or if you have already tried this, but I use printscreen quite a bit and I love it; it works great!

The one thing I learned there is a difference in the format (or keyboard shortcuts) that you use. On any other computer (or laptop) that I have used you press the Control key & hold and press the PrtSc (printscreen) key, holding them both for a few seconds then let go. This will capture an image of the whole screen. OR if you want to capture just one particular window or box within the screen you must click on the window or box then press the ALT key and hold it and press the PrtScr (printscreen) key.

On my HP Pavilion laptop at first I could not get it to do the printscreen function until I learned that there is a key on the keyboard labled Fn. (Function key) Use the Fn key as you would the Control key.

Press the Fn key then press the PrtSc key.  And to capture the particular window or box within the screen press Fn key then the ALT key then the PrtSc (printscreen) key for a few seconds then release them all at the same time.

Of course after that you need to paste the image somewhere, like a word doc or powerpoint document. (Can save as a jpeg or bmp)

To paste it you can press the Control key then the V key on your keyboard. Or you could just right click and left click on paste.

Hope that this made some sort of sense and/or helped at least a little.

Just remember on HP it's Fn  then PrtSc!   :)
