Title: Need help buying a printer
Post by: tigerlilly01 on September 01, 2011, 03:12:01 am
I have a dell printer that is just barely over a year old but of course out of warranty and it is junk... I need to get a new printer that doesn't break the bank to buy ink for and one that will be reliable and also would like it to be a multifunction with scanner and copy .... i can live without the copy but it has to scan and print (color also).  Any ideas?  I have been looking at the Lexmark and Epson and read great things and then read horrible things so what are you to believe?

It's the COLOR that costs you all the money. I have a Brother laser that runs forever without more toner and I got it for $79 on sale. If the drum goes bad, I just throw it away and buy a new one! I also grabbed a Cannon scanner a few years ago and combined with my printer it does copies. It also scans in color so I can send it to one of my sucker friends that has a color printer to print for me Heh Heh. If I desperately need a color print, I take it to Kinkos for less than I would have to pay for the ink.

Yes, color printers are a lot of upkeep with the toner/ink and drums.  But I tell you what... we wouldn't take anything for our color printers.

We have HP Color LaserJet 3600n and an OKI C5150.

We also have an Epson photo printer.

Most of the stuff we print is black and white, but on some things we do use the color if we want professional looking stuff.

I read a lot of pro's and con's about printers yesterday for hours and finally decided to go with the Lexmark Pinnacle 901.  It is on sale for $100 off but I had to order it online so it will be a few days before I am printing again.

I love my Kodak printer.  I did run out of black ink quick because my husband needed lots of things printed.  But I shopped around comparing prices on line before we got in the car to go get it.

I know how you feel, I had the same problem.  I now just use the scanner part of the printer and because of the outrageous price of ink, which dries up if you dont take it out after every use and store it in plastic,  I just get copies at the grocery store. Its much cheaper.

I'm stuck on the HP printers. Love their photo editing feature.

I've had an HP and their customer support is unbelievable but their ink is rather expensive.  I've had Lexmark and they were fine.  I now have a Cannon and I got an ink cartridge from a local place that refills them.  I'm very happy.
