Thoughts on it?
-
i dont like anything he has to say
-
What speech? In all seriousness I heard about the speech, but couldn't care less about what he has to say. :bs: I'm interested in action, not his undoubtedly impeccable locution. He's a smart man, a nice man even, but he doesn't have a freakin' clue as to how to run the country. Don't give tax breaks to businesses that close down shop here and send their factories overseas. Don't give billions to other countries, ungrateful countries to boot, and then wonder why our nation's credit rating has been reduced. Worry about our country first for a change. Invest in our nation's education and industry and stop doling out American tax payers money to every @#$! needy and or greedy hand in the world.
-
I believe it was a very good speech. It stated ways to help teachers, veterans, short term and long term unemployed. It will extend payroll tax cuts for me because the company I work for haven't given raises in 3 years. If you didn't here anything good in that speech then I feel you are ignorant and a HATER. The bill that he is sending to Congress is called the AMERCAN JOBS ACT. We should base our Opinion's on thought out facts rather than emotional rehtoric.
-
It's really was the same rhetoric with little substance. Would have preferred to hear the actual points to his proposal and how it will be funded. Too little to go by at this moment.
-
Was this really worthy of a joint session of congress? All this time and it still seems like amateur hour to me. Selling hope to those in despair by reading a speech written by others off of a teleprompter does not inspire me in anyway. At least it was civil this time with no blame thrown around and there were actually a few points that were the correct thing to do -- but that isn't enough for me at this late stage of the game.
-
What is really ignorant is people who buy into whatever a politican is spewing out of their mouth to get elected/reelected. Does the word gullible mean anything to some people? Who remembers in Jr. High or High School when the school canidates promised new soda and candy vending machines in the cafeteria? Did it happen? No When Bush Sr. said "No New Taxes" did it happen? Listen to any politician making grand statements of future utopia and you will notice a blazing trail of deceit.

:bootyshake:No matter what Obama say's Haters are always going to be haters and doubter's are always going to be just that. Get over yourself and your ignorance Damn were was all the negative energy when Bush was in office giving away money and massing up even wrose stuiped people only hear what they wont and thats why Obama will will agin all because of his doubter's and haters lol Go Obama!!!! Loved the speech. :icon_rr:

I hope whatever he does really works because the poor and hardworking people are really hurting...and they do not know how they are going to survive difficult financial times. When he took office fuel at the pump used to be $1.80 per gallon...now you are lucky if you find a gallon of fuel for $4.50. Everything has gone up in price because high fuel prices increase the prices of the products being transported. I hope that whatever happens now will benefit the people of the USA.

This man was campaigning people, nothing else!! His plan is shot full of holes, and he didn't cover where this money is coming from or where we are going to cut to fund it. UH, it wasn't too long ago Washington was up in arms to raise the debt ceiling....HELLO??? So we just throw more money out there and the Unions can hire temporary help and pocket the profits? How can he threaten not to pay SSI checks a month ago, and then say he's going to cut the payroll tax which funds SSI? WHAT? Did anybody do the math in their head? What makes me so angry is that he verbally flips and flops like this and thinks the American people are not smart enough to figure it out.
I feel insulted, how about you? No Obama in 2012!! Time for this one term Prez. to take a permanent vacation.
People wake up!!!! He only gave you sugar and spice without telling you how he's going to get it. Telling us that it's covered and paid for says NOTHING!! TELL US HOW!!! He's lying to us.

As for you. I have one thing to say. It doesn't take "hate" to see that something isn't working. Take your "hate' speech and use it on something where "hate" is actually involved. This isn't it. Get over yourself and get your facts straight. Research what debt Bush amassed in 2 terms compared what Obama has amassed already. Obama made a lot of campaign promises that got him elected, but never followed through. Do some research and get over your ignorance, before using the "hate" or "racist" argument, because it won't fly. Bring your stats and I'll bring mine. Lets compare!!
One question: What happened with his last stimulus idea? EXACTLY!!!
On another note: Learn to spell.

Obama: I am sending this Congress a plan that you should pass right away. It's called the American Jobs Act. There should be nothing controversial about this piece of legislation. Everything in here is the kind of proposal that's been supported by both Democrats and Republicans - including many who sit here tonight. And everything in this bill will be paid for. Everything.
What I heard: I am running for a second term in 2012. I am blaming everything on congress. The American people are so stupid they will believe this. I want to get the economy going again just a enough so that you will vote for me. I am set for life. Everything I make for the rest of my life will be paid for. Everything! I don't give a rat's *bleep* in hell whether you make any money or get a job. I just need you to believe the economy is getting better. Whether the economy is actually getting better is NOT, I repeat NOT important.

I didn't watch it! Why bother????? Same old story..........

Don't forget about Obama and Bernake monetizing the debt. This caused an all-inclusive, retroactive tax upon everyone and is part of the reason that even though oil prices are less than when he took office, gas prices are double.
-
What that other person said, what speech, I did hear he was going to do one, I must of missed it, oh well, rehearsed lies, should be said instead of speech, he is doing everything for republicans, I think they paid him to go in office.
-
That payroll tax reduction has already been done and it was a sneaky, dishonest way of doing things. It was NOT an actual tax reduction. They simply reduced the amount being withheld so people would have a little extra each payday and spend it but the taxes remained the same and resulted in a nasty surprise when taxes were figured the next year. I am SO tired of politicians :BangHead: I guess we'll see next week if it's just smoke and mirrors like I suspect.
-
same generalities and never says how you will pay for the plan so it doesn't ever amount to much.

im sorry people feel the way they do about obama but he came into office with all of GEORGE W BUSHS problems it wasnt him that started the 2 wars we r now in and it wasnt him that caused us to lose all our jobs once again GEORGE W BUSH sold us out people use ur head at least hes trying.
-
His plan itself I don't mind too much. He's giving tax cuts to employers and employees, and trying to stimulate the economy. But it can't come at a worse time. We're so far in debt, and he wants to launch a 440 something billion dollar plan... The debt super committee is already tasked with trying to cut over a trillion dollars within the next 20 years and then he adds another half a trillion on top of that. What we need is a president who is willing to down on government spending (such as welfare and defense) and get this country back on track. We should be cutting, not spending more, because all that's accomplishing is digging us deeper into the whole we've got ourselves in.
-
massing up even wrose stuiped people only hear what they wont and thats why Obama will will agin all because of his doubter's and haters lol Go Obama!!!! Loved the speech. :icon_rr:
Yes, we are "massing up even wrose stuiped," or do you mean "massing up the rose striped?" ...or perhaps you mean the mass of the worst of the stupid people, of which you present yourself as a classic example. Like Annella says, learn to spell and I'll add that it would also do you well to express yourself a little more sensibly, if you expect to be taken seriously. But as you so eloquently say, "Obama will will agin all because of his doubter's and haters lol...." I agree, he will will, maybe maybe agin do that, lol.
(If it should be the case that you're under 8 years of age, then I apologize for my comments, however, I would still encourage you to improve your command of the English language before posting again.)

Yes, we are at war. Especially after 9-11 we had to send a message, and thank God for a President at that time who was willing to go out on a branch and do it. Carter never would have done it. There also comes a time when the present President has to stand up for his OWN failures instead of blaming the prior administration. Especially since he's been in control for almost 4 years himself. So far, Obama has not fulfilled his campaign promises that got him elected. NOT ONE!!! He also has not started to bring back our troops like he promised. Tell me this.....who started the war in Libya without prior approval? Sorry, but Bush was long gone for that one.
A lot of Obama's actions only line the pockets of the rich, and gave CEO's golden showers with the last stimulus. Who do you think will benefit from this one? Certainly not the people who so desperately need it. Get educated and find out how many pleasure vacations (domestic and International) trips he and his family have taken, not including just week-end jaunts or date nights that the tax payer has been picking up the tab for. He is the President who will go down in history for spending the most in the shortest amount of time on Pork, and himself. We can't afford another 4 years. He's destroying America and running her into the ground with debt.
He frightened the American people with scare tactics during the ceiling debate and lied right through his teeth. He's a manipulator and not upfront about anything. He has shamed us overseas with his behavior with damaged protocol, and made some back room deals that are just now coming to light. He preaches Immigration reform but then sues States that want to pass strict Immigration laws. That's talking out of both sides of his mouth.
The man is nothing but a liar with a silver tongue. I'm trying to tell people to GET EDUCATED about what is really going on. Do some research. The American people need to stand up and take back America from those who are clearly destroying her from the inside. Arm yourself with knowledge and stop being force fed from mainstream media. Then when something is reported, you will be able to distinguish what is truth or not. The days of sitting back and trusting those in Washington to have our best interests at heart are over. The people have been lax long enough. Now is the time to make our voices heard. I love my country and it makes me sick to see her flounder like she's doing.
-
I totally agree with this evaluation of his abilities, or lack of abilities as the case so obviously seems to be. He's a total amateur who only knows how to make promises, he knows nothing about governance and leadership. How much longer can people excuse his mistakes by blaming Bush? How much longer are we expected to wait for him to learn his job and start making some real improvements?
-
I missed it

I feel sorry for anyone still blaming George Bush for all America's problems. It wasn't true back when Obama was elected, and definitely isn't true 3 years later. It's worn out logic. Just like Obama is not the cause of all America's problems today either. It's time to be less concerned about trying to place blame for our problems, and more concerned with who is actually going to fix those problems.

The hands of the President and any legislation he proposes is not going to make it through an obstructionist Congress which refuses to even consider--except for media sound bites--anything proposed. This is not how our government is supposed to function. We have jobless, homeless, hungry Americans in this great country for pete's sake. It is all about politics and not the well-being of our country. I wish he had just done this by executive order and got it started for the good of our country and let the rest of them rant and rave.
Besides--at least Obama is sane; do you really want to wake up and have Michelle Bachmann or Rick Perry in the White House? Think about that for a moment.
-
I forgot it was on, but I imagine it was a bunch of lies to replace the lies he told before he got elected.
-
I didn't go out of my way to watch it. Whenever he opens his mouth, I'm likely to hear lies. I don't think he knows how to run a country any better than I do. He doesn't have experience or background. I've heard it said that businesses make jobs, not the government. I tend to believe it. After all, we're in a country that claims to value freedom. The only way a government can "make jobs" as far as I can tell is to a) hire people, b) force companies to hire people.
I believe that we should have a small government and in free enterprise. A government that claims to have the power to make jobs/create jobs can't be small and is the opposite of free enterprise. Our country has too much debt. If I had a debt to income ratio the same as the government, I'd go crazy! Mine is much smaller and it is still discouraging, but I know that if I plan properly, I can get rid of it.

Your correct in one statement. Why didn't he just do it by Executive Order? Even with an obstructionist Congress, he still has optional powers in various areas. He didn't do this by Executive Order because it was a campaign speech to appeal to the future voters that he is doing something. However, blowing smoke is not actually doing anything concrete. No, the choices so far for Commander In Chief is not good at the moment. I'm hoping someone will appear on the political radar that will have some smarts.
I'm going to have to disagree that Obama is sane. Any leader who sues in court any state government trying to enforce safety of their own borders is not sane. Or.......he has a hidden agenda to destroy the very thing he has been elected to protect. I vote hidden agenda and insanity.
-
I think it is time to clear out both the House and Senate. How dare they point fingers at each other while the US is going down every single day. It does not matter who is to blame fix all this :bs:

Actually our government was intentionally designed to be combative with regards to passing new laws and regulations. It was suppose to be difficult to pass bills, sort of a trial by fire where only the really good ones passed. Congress makes the laws appropriate to the powers it has authority over and they have often abuse these powers under previous presidents as well as under Obama. It would be far better for us if many of the laws they passed never made it. The president has no authority to pass an executive order of the scope you suggest and can only issue executive orders for areas where he has power and even then they must follow the law.
Jobless, homeless, hungry Americans and such sad situations are forever tactics used by those in power to abuse the powers they posses and impose unfair burdens upon the rest of us. The government cannot create jobs except to increase itself and this is not of the spirit of our Republic. The only real way for the government to create jobs is to lift the burdens it places on us in the form of regulations. The government has no authority to provide homes for the homeless. Tragic as such situations are that is a responsibility of the charity of the people and the government has no right to impose moral responsibilities upon the masses -- and even if they did forced charity is not charity at all. While the government may have some responsibility to make sure food is available to Americans they cannot justify increasing burdens upon us when they send more food to other countries than is require here. The only time such burdens may be prudent is when, taking all foreign aid and applying it internally, such aid is insufficient.
I know my views may sound harsh to some but I assure you they are not. Review the constitution and the bill of rights. Read "The Federalist" if you dare and learn more about the intentions. After doing that, consider how wealthy and how well off and free we would be if the government just did what it has authority to do.

No, your views sound confusing and make no sense how you write them. Congress can pass all it wants, but it still lands on the President's desk for signing or veto. How do you think the Republicans dumb proposal to balance the budget every year got vetoed after the majority of Republicans voted for it and it passed? Obama said they could send it to his desk all they want, but he would not sign it. However, it was grandstanding on their part to put up a phony show that they were actually doing something during the "raise the debt ceiling" debates.
Hate to burst your bubble, but there is government funds appropriated for housing (HUD), medical (Medicare), Utilities (HEAP), etc., for the poor, disabled and underprivileged. What to you think the "pet" entitlement programs the Democrats did not want cut were? You mention regulations in place that if removed, would create jobs? Just what regulations are you talking about?
Executive Order options to the President are varied and can be executed in times of turmoil, war (foreign or domestic), terrorist threats, etc. Research it yourself. The President has a lot of power, but does not often wield it because of the people and/or the scrutiny of Congress. I see how you are trying to make a plug for Obama like he's at the mercy of a Congress that is out to get him. Baloney!! The guy didn't even come up with a viable plan for the debt ceiling, and was, for the most part, absent at the proceedings. One time even leaving in a huff because he didn't like what was being discussed. Poor little baby :binkybaby:
Can you tell me how he proposes paying for a jobs plan? His speech was fluff covered in lies and more deceit. The same he has been dishing out since he got in office.
-
sounds good to me i think it whould work out for us that dont have jobs right
-
I agree with action. Great speech, now follow through!
-
Here's an idea: no members of the House or the Senate, nor the president should be paid until the deficit is gone. They're all rich anyways, it won't hurt them. I was always under the impression that their job was to serve their country (rather like the military). I don't see the troops who are giving their lives getting paid like these bozos in charge are. All of them, Democrat or Republican, should not be paid till they earn it, like everyone other working American in this country.

First off I despise Obama and made no plug for him -- where did you get the idea contrary to that? Were you in such a hurry to throw insults at me because you thought I was an Obama supporter because I spoke of the abuses of congress that you failed to realize I was speaking of the abuses of both? It is rare that someone manages to anger me, but your belittling tone and insulting nature come close. You could be correct though in regards to my previous post being confusing as it was written well past the time I am normally asleep and as a jab to the corruptions of government that has overreached its authority, and so I will dismiss your malignment to a case of misunderstanding.
These things you speak of, HUD, Medicare, HEAP are things I consider abusive government burdens and are not authorized by The Constitution but instead are classic cases of the "Camel's nose" metaphor.
As far as regulations I find burdensome to job creation, well there are many more than I know so I will list a few that come to mind. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Sarbanes-Oxley, many EPA regulations and especially new ones under Obama (mandatory reporting of “greenhouse gas” emissions and new automotive fuel economy standards to name two), regulations and charges to simply start a new business (not limited to federal government), the Dodd–Frank bill, etc.
The rest of your post I will leave to someone else to answer since I think Obama is so bad that he makes me miss Jimmy Carter (yeah I was around then and remember him well).

I was not in a hurry to throw insults but to say your posting was confusing. However, we both are off topic to the thread which asks what did we think about Obama's speech? As far as angering you, that is something you have the power to avoid. Don't own it.
News Flash: It's a public forum open to people's opinions. Not everybody agrees on the same issues. That's why it's a forum. I don't mince words and pretty much call it as I see it. If that offends you then you need to develop a thicker skin if your going to debate, or offer an opinion.
The programs like HEAP, HUD, etc., are to help those less fortunate and I believe they are necessary. Why do we send millions of aid to other foreign countries when our own poor and needy go without? This is shameful for a Nation that is the richest in the world. We can't just kick our elderly and infirm to the curb just because they don't fit our parameters of contributing citizens. Pretty cold hearted.
I was around when Carter was in office also. It's funny how Iran released the hostages just before Reagan took office. To the very day in fact. Carter left them to rot for over a year. Reagan warned Iran during his campaign that if he was elected they pretty much better watch out. The American people were sick of Carter's do nothing attitude concerning getting them released. It cost him the Presidency for a second term. Sound familiar?
I've read a couple other posts that you have posted also and they make little sense. It sounds substantial with a lot of big words and mumbo jumbo, but you aren't actually saying anything to bring about a clear response. You can call me belittling and insulting, but that in itself is a form of retaliation because you don't know what your talking about.
-
I have to say it was one of his better speeches, considering I can't stand watching his speeches, but that was what it was a speech. Nothing that he has spoke about has not helped our country at all. I'm just waiting on the part of the bill that will say, "and oh by the way your getting screwed again!"

At least it was civil this time with no blame thrown around and there were actually a few points that were the correct thing to do -- but that isn't enough for me at this late stage of the game.
I agree, although he did threaten to bring it to the American people again! This is a stump speech for his election, it is just as he did in 2008, he will do in 2012. He has nothing!! This is just regurgitated 2009 stimulus, nothing was new in this except asking companies to hire Vets and give them a tax break. He bailed out the states in stimulus 1 for the tune of 300 B and most of the money went to save Fire/Police and Teachers jobs. This is more of the same waste of money!! And to keep the Unions happy!!
