I have cats so I don't like traps or sprays in the house.  I've had some tiny ones come in around the kitchen window so I've sprayed around the outside of the window frame and down along their trail.  This stopped them.

There are outside bait traps that can be set around their nest too.

I used something called Terro you get at Walmart, I have cats  indide and they did bother it, it is stick like syrup the ants loved it, I have also used it outside.
Your can get the hotel thing for ants also the stuff did not seem to work so I put the terro in it and your pets can not get to it.

My husband works for Hulett Environmental services. He uses this awesome bait that got rid of ghost ants in our breakfast nook. I think it's sold by the company but I just wanted to let you know. I'm sure i'm no help!

I used to get them in South Carolina and they seem to be a hardy bug, meaning they are hard to kill. I had to buy those bug bombs and place them in every room of the house and then go out for approximately 4 hours to let the dust to settle, or the insectacide to disapate to enter the house. Then I had to vaccume them up. I don't know if you live in one/two level but, it seemed to work on a single level ranch home. You have to get rid of them outside also to avoid them from coming back in.

Believe it or not but Lysol spray (the Fresh Linen) works on ants. It's got to be the Linen kind that comes in the pale blue can. For some reason (nobody knows why), but it will kill ants. Just like nobody knows why Skin So Soft by Avon will keep mosquitoes away from you.

we get grants ant spikes (at home depot). you can use them indoors as well. the outside of each spike is make of a harder plastic that some of the others; each spike has a tiny hole in them that the ants crawl into and take the stuff back to the queen.

anyway, we have 2 cats and a dog.  we've use this stuff for years with no problems for our pets. good luck!
