Title: Bing Video / toolbar download warning
Post by: mom2taz on September 15, 2011, 02:29:47 pm
Looked through the forum topics but was unable to find anyone else that had posted about this.....so maybe it's a glitch or just my pc...but when I watched the Bing video, then attempted to download the Bing toolbar for .32 credit my Norton Antivirus flagged it as a risk.

I rarely download toolbars, only when it is something I am familiar with....I have had the Bing toolbar on another computer I got from the Bing website directly.....no problems with it....so I figured this one was safe to attempt...but when Norton popped up and flagged it as a risk I denied the download.

Just an FYI....and curious if anyone actually completed the download....or if anyone else ran into an issue with it,

thanks
 :peace:

There was an offer a long time ago to download the bing toolbar.  I did so and it screwed up my computer for awhile.  I had to uninstall it.  I am leary to do it again.

Ooo, glad I came here.  I'll stop trying to do the Bing video.  Don't need any problems.  My issue with it is that after watching it I download it, but all I get is a txt file full of gibberish.  When I try to click on the link again I get some monkey game site in the video window.  Then I try clicking on "next video" but it just gives me the Bing video again and again.   :dontknow:

I haven't received credit for it either.   I downloaded it using firefox - no credit.  Then uninstalled and downloaded in Internet Explorer.  Still no credit

I don't download these toolbars because they really mess up my computer. Be careful what you download.

Thank You for posting. I had the same issue. My antivirus software flagged it too but it has also flagged downloads from microsoft. My computer started running slow so I deleteted it immediately.

In addition to the bing toolbar I found something else from StartNow.com. Once I deleted the software from start now, restarted my computer and ran my antivirus software,my computer is now running faster.

And I never received my .32 cents.

It's probably best to not download the software until FC fixes it or checks it out.

Yep!! I had a BIG problem with this! Yesterday evening I downloaded the Bing toolbar, but then realized that I forgot to watch the video too, so I went back and watched it hoping it would credit even though I did it backwards. No luck....no credit. I did it in IE because I figured it wouldn't credit using Firefox, which I normally use. Since I didn't get credit I thought I'd better uninstall it and go back & try again in the proper order. When I uninstalled the toolbar, I discovered that it wasn't labeled as "Bing", it was "StartNow" toolbar. Well, I was able to watch the video again, but when I clicked on the install Bing link, all I got was the same monkey game site thing in the video window that CharmedPhoenix was getting. At that point I gave up, however I started having issues with Firefox after that and some box kept popping up about some site's certificate being expired/not valid. I thought "great, I probably have a virus now!" Did a malware & virus scan....nothing. Decided to do a restore point only to discover that the date on my computer had been changed to February 21, 2012 and couldn't even do a restore point!! I opened up IE to see if I was having the issue there too and wasn't, so ended up uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox, which seemed to have fixed the problem.

Those of you who have installed it with no problems, or those of you who already uninstalled it....you may want to check the date on your computer to make sure it is the current date!!

Admin...maybe you should take this Bing offer down!!

Uhm... Might be safe not to download it. If nortons flagging it, might be a sign. But who knows sometimes their off with that kind of stuff.

This is exactly what happened when I dl'd the bing toolbar and again, no $0.32 credit.  FC should remove this offer if it is faulty.
