Are you familiar with the saying, "Behind every great man is a woman?"
Do you think this can be seen as offensive? Why or why not?
-
If you stop and think about it, it is offensive, both to men and women. It insults women by implying that a woman's purpose is to support a man. It insults men by implying that a man without a woman's support is unlikely to be great.
At least, I can see it that way. I can also see it as a sort of backhand compliment, but it wouldn't be the type of compliment I'd want. ;D

That is not offensive. Unless there are men who hatched from eggs, every man was born from a woman. And great men at some time or another were influenced at least by their mothers.

I don't think it's offensive. I think there's a lot of fact behind the saying.

is a good black woman.

Does a man need a woman in his life, if he wants a chance at being great?

I concur!...and women are the backbone of society...I'm not putting down men when I say that, cause it's true! Ask yo mama, she'll tell you.

Wives, Mothers, Aunts, Female Teachers etc.....

I take it that man wouldn't get anything done if woman wasn't behind him to prod him on.....

no i dont think it is, its also the way u take it in and the way it is being said i think its funny, unless ur being an *bleep* about it then it could be offensive! In my opinion anyways! ;D

 Great response because this is exactly how I feel about this saying! You just made the reply before I was able to! Great job!

Doesn't really make sense to me in this age and time. Why? Well behind every great man, there could be a woman, OR a man, or a child(son or daughter). I think the term needs to be expanded a little, because things have changed!

Since he is driven by his hormones----THEN-----He definately needs some relief from somewhere.

SOME PEOPLE TAKE IT LIKE THAT.
