I was wondering how many people thought our legal system is just and fair? In my opinion I think it depends how much money you have and who you know otherwise you just get what you get!
-
Hell no i dont think it just or fair at all :-X
-
I think its just in most cases
-
Fair??? Hell no it's not fair! there are too many crooked people out there for it to be FAIR!
-
For the most part no. Jury tend to go with their heart and not evidence. Plus all you need is a good lawyer to talk the jury into anything. It's supposed to be complete guilt or they're innocent but it never goes that way. At least most times.
-
To a certain extent. I am a criminology major and some of the case we have read are just ridiculous. Safe guards that are set in place to save people end up failing miserably. Its quite sad. People put a lot more faith in the "justice" system than they really should.
O and a side: I have noticed that it is the innocent people that need lawyers the most. If you are innocent and think the legal system will protect...dont be fooled.
-
it is thre bestin the world, though sometimes not fair.
-
Nope, not at all. We're talking about a country that practically gives the criminals the "silver platter". So if someone broke into your home, and gets hurt, he can sue and win. it's that bad.
-
No I dont think it is fair. Not at all. Even of you have money. WE just need God

unfair , very unfair , my brother didnt kill anyone and is now doing 15 years for a drug habit .

It is the the best we have. Sometimes it is just and sometimes it is not fair but who said life was fair.
-
Absolutely NOT! I have become more & more convinced over the years that we have undeniably the WORST legal/judicial system in the world!! We have entirely too many hardened criminals and repeat offenders walking free on the streets~~only to victimize/hurt/mame/rape/Kill more innocent people in their paths. Why? Because more often than not, the police do their jobs only for the Judges & Juries to FAIL miserably at theirs!!
-
Not at all! After hearing the verdict in Casey Anthonys and a couple of other cases, and seeing murderers set free, and innocent people behind bars for a life time I have lost any trust that I had in the legal system. Moreover how can a handful of common people , the jury decide the fate of the suspect? Most countries dont have this type of system. Circumstancial evidence has too much significance and many things are frustrating in the legal system.

I would like to think that there is justice. But lately there has been so many upsets in the news it is totally insane. Baby killers, love triangles, and greed. It's crazy.
-
Like everything else, its only fair if you win.
-
according to the us justice department, 33% of the people on death row are innocent of what they were charged with..that's an awfully high number..i'd hate to be one of those 33% wouldn't you? so that makes me feel that our legal system works 67% of the time.

From what I have observed in my lifetime, it is how much money and influence that you have is what you can get away with doing. Several years ago in my area there were two young men who were each involved in a fatal DUI accident. One came from an wealthy, influential family and he walked away scott-free. He had a high-priced lawyer and paid the family off. The other young man spent five years in prison because his family didn't have the money to buy his way out of it. The worse thing about our judicial system is the fact that you have to prove yourself innocent instead of being proved guilty. So many falsely accused people have spent their lifetime savings and/or money to be made in the future to clear themselves of false accusations. I know a man that has been fighting to stay out of jail for only loving his kids. His crazy ex has accused him and his whole family of molesting their two kids. She has even brought the FBI in to investigate "The Man Act." This guy has spent over $100,000 just to stay out of jail. All he wants is to see his kids. She has deep mental problems.

I believe our system is just and fair. The problem is the people that we have put in positions of trust who abuse their respective powers. They treat the system as their little playground, for their own amusement, revenge or simply personal powerplays. Too may times personal feelings enter into they way they handle various cases and situations instead of going by the letter of the law. It has gotten to where I question the validity of any allegation, trial outcome or involved procedures, (guilty or innocent) because it is becoming increasingly more difficult to ascertain just who is telling the truth. :angry7:

It is suppose to be innocent til proven guilty but in reality it is guilty til u prove ur innocence and if u have a record forget it ur already tried and convicted no matter what unless u have lots of money and a great lawyer!
-
70% of the jail and prison's population is minority. Is that because 70 of minorities commit all crimes? No, it is because our legal system is unfair.
-
money has a lot to do with it, i think. if you get a public dfender you are being helped by people who are getting paid by the same people who are trying to prosecute...hum, doesn't seem like that would be unbiased. :dontknow:
-
No, it will never be completely fair.
-
Yes and NO!
Being that out legal system is dependant on people to judge and defend our legal rights we will always be at the mercy of their opinions, moods or what ever hair they have up their butt that day.
-
i think our legal system, sucks to the highest power, because all ittakes is money for them to wrong and sometimes they barely get caught, until someone in the group is feeling unequal. and i hate that. :peace: :bs:
-
are legal sytstems difinatley have flaws but im sure so do other states and country have there flaws.
-
no not everytime. race and the amount of money u have sometimes create unjust outcomes for otherwise guilty criminals. if casey anthony was a minority would she be free now?? theres injustice in the courts and thats the way the world operates. so how can injustice be prevented in the courts? as long as people are the way they are.
-
You have a point. Like that gal in Florida who went on trial for killing her daughter. Not sure how much cash she has or who she knows but I think she got off easy.
-
I work in a Law Firm and have had my fair share of time in Court because my son's father, unfortunately is a loser and I will tell you that the JD system, for the most part, sucks. If your lawyer is friendly with the prosecutor, you're more than likely to get a deal on things the normal person would be crucified for. The Casey Anthony case for example.... COMPLETE disgrace. She clearly murdered her own daughter and was set free while innocent people get locked up for crimes they didn't commit.
-
NO! if it was people like casey anthony would be behind bars!!!
-
try the child support division, if you are male you will fail
-
try the child support division, if you are male you will fail
I appreciate what you are saying, however, in regards to the child support division...hopefully...the system is fair for the very innocent child who is involved.

Well, as a judge said to me when I was sued for my ex husbands bills, I know it's not right or fair but what is right or fair is not the law. I think there is alot of room for improvement.
