Title: Pet peeves at the Gros. store.
Post by: tantricia44 on September 29, 2011, 11:25:05 am
I don't let things get to me much but when I go to the gros. store to buy my food I get really upset when I come upon the tomatoes to find that each and everyone of them have been, pinched,Squeezed, bruised, lacerated, & over all just damaged! It maybe a little thing to be upset about but think about germs that people carry unknowingly with them. You don't know what's in some1's finger nails as they squeeze the tomato. I think if you damage it you buy it. This not just 1 gros store, it's like every1 I go to, to buy veg/fruit products! Food is now more expensive than ever;why must I pay more for buying damaged goods? Am I being too *bleep* about this? What are your Pet peeves? :BangHead:

tell the store management - if more people complained and refused to buy these goods they would have to do something about it.

Thanks members for responding to my Pet peeves post.

Valerie1979 Duhhaa, why didn't I think of that? I guess I'm jaded b/c in the past I ask for help &get  nothing but crap responses. But thinking about it, i decided that I should not have to put up w/damaged goods!I'm the customer right, & when I need customer service I should get it!Thanks V1979 your suggestion has given me the courage to face this problem. I say courage b/c I'm such a chicken when having to confront people w/issues.
crizleris  I completely agree with you. You ask for customer service & they look at you like you're speaking Martian. Also, with that look on their faces, this look that reminds me of a retarded person.I've worked with severely disabled persons & they make the retarded patients look normal!LOL... Have you complained to the managers about this issue? I plan too, tired of bad customer service. :BangHead:
jmeierdierck23
OMG! I'm so guilty of doing that & I do it b/c I'm bored or nervous. The main reason, I started doing that annoying habit is b/c it totally pissed off my younger sister! The more she screamed at me to stop the more I chump, smacked, & opened my mouth wider than the pacific ocean! Of course, I only do it in front of my sister nobody else.Hee, hee, so the public don't have to be worried of me offending any1 w/this habit.Have you asked the annoying person to stop? Anyway thanks to your pet peeve, it brought back warm memories of me & my sister growing up, fighting & playing....Okay, mostly fighting!  ::)

My biggest pet peeve at the grocery store is when someone is in line to pay for their groceries , they get up to the cashier , then they
start digging in their purse for their checkbook.  I know people get upset having to wait so I make sure if I am writing a check(which I
hardly ever do anymore) I get it out and start filling it out so I all I have to do is write is the amount.  It makes it super quick for everyone.

Mine are when people let their kids roam around the store knocking things down and when people get to the register and decide they forgot something

Right on!, and also as mentioned in the other chats the check book thing! And digging in the purse for the exact change, taking forever OMG!.. I found that just giving the extra dollar and taking the change is a great way to save. I take the change, separate the silver from the copper, by the end of the year I had enought to gamble in Las Vegas.

My pet peeve is getting home and realizing that the grocery store over charged me and I either have to lose the money or drive back and try to get my money back.  Funny how the errors are never in my favor.

My pet peeve is getting home and realizing that the grocery store over charged me and I either have to lose the money or drive back and try to get my money back.  Funny how the errors are never in my favor.

This is mine also. Safeway is notorious for overcharging. I now check my receipt before exiting the store. Walmart so far has had the best run with no errors while checking out. Safeway is number 1. Safeway is also bad about advertising something for sale and then when you get to the checkout, it's not. If you don't watch things closely, you could get charged full price on a sale item. I've caught them many times. Their explanation is that the sale item didn't get put in their registers yet. WHAT? Then why is it being advertised?

I can't stand screaming kids in any store and the mom is just ignoring them and letting them scream and cry. or they are running around without any supervision at all. Some upscale restaurants are banning children. Look for more changes regarding kids in public places. In my opinion, this is the right avenue. Why should everyone else be bothered with kids with bad manners only because the parents won't take responsibility?

My big irritation is people going to express lanes with way too many items. Or picking up something that needs to be refrigerated and leaving it on a shelf somewhere.Or the store selling expired food.

There are so many of them...I agree with every one!!! I hate when I have one item and the person in front of me has a huge wagon (and the express line is closed) and the person doesn't say that I can go in front of them.

Definitely people taking up the whole lane of the grocery aisle. It should be a law in grocery stores to park your cart near the side if you're browsing items!

Oh no no, I just mean the parents that make no attempt at all to control their kids. They just bring them to the store and expect everyone else to babysit for them. I don't get annoyed at the kids, I get annoyed at the irresponsible parents!

I have a few pet peeves at the grocery store.  The first are people who decide to stop their cart right smack in the middle of the aisle and abandon it to go to the shelf.  No one can then get down from either direction, and when you say "Excuse me" when trying to get through, they act like you are inconveniencing them, or give you a dirty look.  Umm, can't you just pull the cart to the side when you stop so people can get through?

The other big one are people who are just walking around coughing and sneezing in the air with no regards to the others in the store.  I don't need to inhale your cold, flu, or other germs, or have it spewed on my products. So, please cover your coughs and sneezes into your elbows.  I don't think that's much to ask.

Boy oh boy! What really fries my cookies at the grocery store are those people who put their filthy hands in the fresh bread bins and touch all over the bread. I hate that whenever I see that it makes me want to scream at that person or at least give them a really dirty look. I want to yell out we all want some bread not just you. Well that's my pet peeve :angry7: :angry7: :angry7:

I think I have most of the pet peeves listed here and more, lol. But to add to the list, I also don't like it when someone parks their cart somewhere, and wanders off to grab something, and the cart is inevitably blocking off something I need. At least move your cart off to the side. Be courteous!

I would just like to apologize for having small children at the grocery store! I didn't know we were such a nuiscance. I always clean up after my kids and they are generally well behaved, but toddlers actions in public are sometimes hard to predict. I would never scream at my children and there are always consequences for poor behavior. I wonder if you non-parents would like to baby-sit while mothers go grocery shopping? Yeah, I didn't think so.  :notworthy: to all of you who never forget anything and don't have kids!

Other than the usual, someone writing a check at the last minute.  People that won't move out of your way no matter how many times you say excuse me.  Or the chit-chat the cashier and a customer just seem to have to have that lasts way to long.  I think it would also be getting home a finding a meat item is spoiled.  Yes, I take it back.  I also hate when items are marked for a resonable price and when you go to pay for it, it is at least 3 times what you thought it was.  I get the manager on that one also.  Most of the time I get the price I want to pay, but, if not, I let the store personel put it back.

I have lot of pet peeves which include, allowing their kids to scream at the top of their voices while they are shopping-shut the kid up-its annoying and irritating.  People who are driving, rush to get in front of you, then slow down.

People who let their kids run wild and get in everyone elses way.
People who block the aisles bc only their time and trip is important and no one else matters!

Basically anyone who is shopping-self-centered.

I dread the service departments. Everyone wears gloves these days and no one seems to realize that these get dirty too. They never seem to change them no matter what they are doing just before handling food. I'm all for the old fashioned no gloves and good, frequent handwashing.

I hate when you ask someone where something is and they look around dumbfounded not knowing and point you to an aisle that is totally not it... good customer service leads you to the item you are looking for :D

I'd also add, it the person doesn't know the answer, then direct me to someone that does. Even if that means talking to the product manager and having them look up on the computer if they have the item and where they stock it. It may take some time, but at least I'd get the correct answer instead of just a guess.

My pet peeve is when two people with carts come down the aisle in opposite directions, see that they know each other, and stop next to each other to start up a conversation. If you want to talk, take it outside of the aisle so that people can actually move around in that aisle and shop!

Well the only way to escape that is to have all the veggies pre wrapped.  What a waste of resources.  Guess people are just rude to damage goods and then not buy them.  My pet peeve is not being able to buy the veggies or fruit because they don't have it (I live in a really small town - can't get romaine lettuce or avacados or specialty mushrooms or french bread!) or because they are too expensive or just plain not ripe enough.

The person who gets in the express lane with a cart full, when clearly it is marked 20 items or less, then when you mention this to them they say they will break it up in to transactions of 20 items! Wow! There Sure Is  Alot Of Kid Haters Here ,I Certainly Hope My Children Or Grandchildren Never Run Into You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whoa!!!!  Nobody brought up the word "hate" except you so back it down a notch. Our society now uses the word "hate" to target people with a label that is demeaning.....like bully or hate crimes. All we are talking about is ill mannered children and the parents that enable them to be that way. Nobody likes misbehaved kids. I raised my son to have manners and he still does. He was not allowed to run around the store or throw a fit without me addressing it when he was a child.

I have three grandsons and they are raised the same way by my son who is now grown with his own family. Etiquette and manners are essential to teach children at an early age. You have a small window to instill these attributes. We have a generation+ of kids nowadays that have no respect or manners as they have had no discipline growing up. I blame the parents for this. I also blame parents for rebuking authority figures like teachers, etc., when they try to correct their child. They are teaching their child that they don't have to listen to anyone, and can be as rebellious as they want to be.....and they are!

Parents today are too lazy to teach their kids basic manners and respect for elders or authority figures. These kids naturally grow up thinking the world owes them and they become burdens on society or worse. If you are taking this as sensitive as you seem to be then I guess the shoe fits. If you throw a stone into a pack of dogs, the only one who yelps is the one hit.

Upscale restaurants are now banning children because nobody wants to hear screaming crying kids, or kids running around while you are out having a $50+ meal on a special occasion. I believe they are on the right track. There are other business's that are adopting this stance also. Who is to blame? The parents!! Why should everybody have to put up with unruly obnoxious kids because the parents are too lazy to do their jobs as parents?

My peeves are yelling kids in the store especially when the parent does nothing about it. I've seen this many times where the parent tunes out thier kids and completely ignore them. That is all well and good if you can do that but I can't do that. Please take the kid outside if they are screaming or have the other parent take them to the car, or get a sitter so you can get your groceries.

I hate when two people meet in the store to chat and coincidentally block an entire aisle. When you ask if you can pass they act like you are the rude one. Hey I'm at the store to shop if you want to chat with your long lost friend move to the side of the aisle or at least acknowledge you are blocking the way and make room when you see someone trying to pass.

As for the handled produce I don't remember ever seeing the produce that manhandled by other customers. But is does sound very rude and unfair if it is as bad as you say.

People who block the entire aisle with their cart and DO NOT MOVE IT when you are approaching them so you have to move it for them, then they finally decide to move the cart. Also, people who stare at the same section for 5 minutes and will not move so I can get the item I want. Plus people who don't have their money ready when paying (including using a card that doesn't work, writing a check, etc), holds up the line even more.

That's what the self checkouts are for.....to do it yourself, without the assistance of the checker. I myself will never use self checkout counters because that is taking someone's job. More and more the customer service industry is shrinking, and big companies are making the customer do the work now. I refuse to "pad" their bottom line while they raise prices weekly and get free labor from the public. No, No, No!!!

I always seem to pick the line for checkout where someone has picked up something and the price doesn't show up on the register, so someone has to call to find out what the price is.  Also digging for change, and not enough checkouts open and you wait in line too long.

I used to work at a grocery store, and my pet peeve for customers is when customers leave items randomly placed in the wrong place (like say you picked up a box of cereal, then halfway through your shopping trip, you decide you don't want it anymore... Don't just leave it on the shelf with the canned goods! At least give it to the cashiers...they have a go-backs cart.)
That, and when customers just leave their carts in the middle of the parking lot or in the middle of the store. Put it away!
Or when customers just...hand their credit card to the cashier...there is usually a place for you to swipe your own card...so swipe it!

I use the self checkout, but I hate when you need help, but the cashiers are so busy TALKING to each other, that they don't notice!! AARRGGGHHHHHH!!!!! >:(

Well said.  We don't use the self-checkouts either, even if we only have one item.  We'll wait in line.  Until they give a discount for customers to use self-checkout, all it's doing is giving more money to people who have too much already!

i hate it when a person in the 20 items or less express lane has exactly 20 items.

Why?  Are they not entitled to be in a line in which they meet the qualifications?  If it's a 15 or less line, are you angry at that person with 15 items?  10 in a 10 line?  If they are following the rules, what reason do you have to be upset about it?

As for the fruit touching thing...I'm totally a fruit molester.  I'm not going to just grab and bag substandard fruit; I'm going to pick that fruit up and examine it on all sides to make sure it has no bruises or cuts; if it does, or if I don't like the firmness (or lack thereof) of the fruit, it goes to the back of the fruit trays.  Any fruit I buy is getting washed before I eat it anyways; it's what you are supposed to do.  As someone else mentioned, if the fruit is all in such bad condition that you believe it's unacceptable, then be sure to complain about the lack of quality and take your business elsewhere.

I always hate the long lines.  I also hate when you're in a rush and the ailes are narrow, someone pushing the cart way to slow and there's no way to pass them, so you gotta just wait till they decide to go in another aile or get the heck out the way!

I hate when people block the whole aisle and just browse around without paying attention to other people.

I got even with a <censored> today. One of my pp's is that people who go into the express with way more than 20 items. Evidently it was one of the <censored>'s behind me as well. I was talking to the cashier about teaching English. After I finished paying for the stuff and I was leaving and the <censored> behind me said, "Well someone needs to teach you how to count." I knew what she meant. As I showed the <censored> my receipt with 18 items and said "I also handle special needs cases as well" and left before she figured out what I meant.

Mine is when people meet someone they know so they ( and their 2 carts and numerous kids ) have to stand in the middle of the aisle and no one can get around them.

Waiting in long lines while my ice cream melts. Ice cream buyers should get immediate service. What happened to "3 in line we open a new checkout stand" ? Fortunately I work odd hours and can shop when the crowds are light.
