Title: Anyone ever pan for gold?
Post by: hammy12 on September 30, 2011, 02:24:39 pm
I am going panning for gold this weekend with my husband. I was wondering if anyone has panned before and had any luck or have any tricks to share.  I hope to find some gold, but a trip out for the day is always fun too.

I haven't done it since I was a kid. It was part of the tour of this old gold mine in Colorado. Probably not the same!

I have taken my kids up to Colorado's mountains and did the tourist gold panning thing...got a couple of flecks but I think that I would have found more gold in a shot of Gold Schlager for cheaper and would have actually gotten a slight buzz!  I have been told by several people that there are still miners and gold panners that do it for a living...they actually make about thirty five thousand dollars a year doing it! It is pretty cold and hard work...I think that arthritis would definately result!

we used to pan for it at a place called Reid's Gold Mine in NC when my son was in the boyscouts.  never found anything other than little slivers, barely big enough to tell what it was, but it was still always a blast to do and my son would get so excited when he found something!
