Do you ever pray for yourself? I know that sounds like a silly question but the extent of praying for myself is Dear Lord thank you for another day, thank you for continuing to watch over me and my family then I continue on with all my personal prayers. I always pray about my son, fiancee, family, if I feel like a friend or someone else needs extra prayers, sometimes I'll throw in asking to continue to be guided down a secure financial path but that's it nothing else about me. Sometimes I'll say the serenity prayer but I feel like when you pray if you ask about yourself then it's a little selfish. What do you think?

I pray for wisdom, courage, perseverance and things like that. I also pray that way for others as well. I am somewhat afraid (not quite the correct word but close enough) to pray for things other than the spiritual/emotional comforts. The reason for my reluctance in specific and more physical things is that I have had them answered with the results I asked for but there were events in between that I never counted on that 'tested' me in ways that I can't imagine how I manged to pass. I tend to feel that peace, comfort, and courage are some of the best things to pray for and such simple things as those seem to be the most important to posses when under strife or hardship or any other difficulty.

I know how you feel, at one point I had fallen into the same position of offering a secure prayer for myself then family, friends, simple issues etc. I don't believe it to be selfish but an obvious truth that you have a need whether it's dire or not it's a need.
Hebrews 4:15-16 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
God already knows that we have needs and when we "beat around the bush" being afraid or doubting to ask, it's an ignorant (unaware) form of deception. Remember God already knows what’s in our heart so we should pray with boldness and not with doubt, ask directly and stop praying indirectly. My wife God bless her, does the same thing instead of telling me what she wants, I'm left to read her mind lol.
It's like salvation it's there for everyone but only to those make a request for it gets it (figuratively speaking.) My son prays directly for what he wants and it amazes me of how ignorant I was in doubting to ask lol. Ask and it shall be given, doubting is asking amiss.

I pray for myself sometimes, and it's ok to do that. God wants you to pray for yourself and well as other. God is our father and he wants to hear from his children, it is like asking your earthly father for something. So yes, it is ok to pray for yourself.

Rhetorically, whine in lieu of rebuttal much?

No one can ever have enough prayer for themself ~ no matter who is doing the praying.

I pray for myself to deal with my daily pain and to help me cope with what life throws at me. I dont consider this selfish, because even Jesus prayed for himself at the end to handle what was about to be. He is our example and our guide. I pray for others as well because I am a pray warrior.

I pray for myself and others as I feel led to, BUTTT, I DO NOT keep praying the same old prayers over and over again. If you have NO FAITH, there is NO NEED to pray anyway. STOP WASTING YOUR TIME and ANNOYING GOD.
He herd you the first time. He said in His Word----Whatsoever things that you ask for----when you pray-----BELIEVE-----that you HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED THEM---and--------YOU SHALL HAVE THEM !!!!
It is like when you get pregnant, and the seed is planted, but it takes time for the seed to be nourised and grow. Just because you don't see the baby yet, don't mean that you are not pregnant. Just keep eating healthy foods, drinking pure water, get proper exercise and in 9 months you will have the baby.
When you ask God for something that is promised to you in His Word----The seed is planted ( IF YOU BELIEVE ) You nourish that seed, by praising and thanking God for it ( eventhough you don't see it yet) and you always speak in the positive about that thing or situation. Sometimes quickly and sometimes longer before your FAITH BABY will appear. Read about Abraham and Sarah. This is way he is called THE FATHER OF OUR FAITH. If you get discouraged,You can always remind God of His Word and His Promises to you.

Ignore the negativity that will likely appear on this thread as there has already been a couple posts headed in that direction already. It doesn't make sense considering all you did was post about prayer and did not at all try to tell others how to think, but I guess some people just feel the need to talk down to and put down others.
In regards to the initial post, it is sometimes hard to pray for yourself. Sometimes I feel selfish if I ask God for things when I already have so many blessings and so much to be thankful for, much more than most. However, there are times I ask God for things that I want, but mostly I ask for guidance and for help staying true to my faith. I'm not going to pretend I have never made a selfish prayer, but it is more natural to thank God than to ask for more when I already have so much. Either way everyone is allowed to pray for whatever they feel like talking to God about at the time, that's what He is there for :)

I pray for myself and my family and friends. God wants us to ask for what we want and need even though He already knows. I talk to Him as if i am talking to my father. Because that is what He is to me.

I think we should always pray for ourselves to make us a better person that is loving, compassionate, kind, and one who worships HIM in spirit and in truth. I always ask for forgiveness because I never know when I might have said or done something that would not be pleasing to HIM. I deem it a priviledge to be able to pray in our great country of USA.

I think praying for yourself is an essential part of a relationship with God. There is nothing wrong or selfish about, though God knows full well what our needs and desires are. sometimes it helps to put certain things in perspective and allows us to self reflect.

YES, I DO ALOT BECAUSE EVERY PRAYER IS COUNTED.
