I see "No Skateboarding" signs all over the place and it just seems silly. I understand the assumed liabilty from a skater getting hurt, but I just don't see a skateboarder really having a chance of suing anyone over any risky behavior that they undertake. Why not ban running, bicycling, or any other possible risky behavior. I am more annoyed with people loitering for no obvious purpose than someone enjoying their environs through recreation.

It is not only the liability it is the damage that "some" skateboarders will do to the area.
But in most cases it is not the skateboarder that sues but his parents. People in the US sue over everything they can.
Skateboarding signs are generic as they are old, there are not many new signs that list bikes, blades or others.
With as many skate parks there are in the US the is really little reason to skate on private property.
I skated and done my share of private property skating, but back then there were little to no public skate parks.

the private property skating is done because the ledges are wayyy better than in most parks. also some challenges of jumping those huge stairs!

There's a lot more skate parks than there were before, but matter how much parks are built it depends on the individuals crave
for new challenges. Every rail, every ramp, bench, chair, sidewalk you name it is like a tease for skaters. So I say it comes down to one just controlling the urges by learning to appreciate his surroundings in a non-skating manner.

It needs a licensing to it like cars.
Most of the skateboarders i come across on campus are idiots.
Can't steer, think they own the road.
Can't break.
And text or talk while moving, just as incompetent.

Trying to read this post makes me think one should think before they post....it might make sense, I did say "MIGHT"!

Yes, skateboarding should be banned on public property. They are a hazard to other pedestrians and vehicles.
