Title: Thanksgiving
Post by: annettefayeroach on October 28, 2011, 03:07:14 am
What are your plans for Thanksgiving? I have no oven right now, so I will have to order my Thanksgiving Dinner from somewhere. Not very happy about that.

Get a Roaster Oven!
They only cost like, $20-$30 bucks from Wal-Mart.
It's an electric oven, it's really easy to cook a turkey in (or other fixings).
And after November, maybe more towards the summer when it's hot and you don't want to use an oven, you can use the electric one without the generated heat or for potlucks or whatever! They take a bit of fiddling to figure out and get used to, but once you do you can cook anything from pies and pizza to chili and soups to roasts and the aforementioned whole turkey!
Even bread, but I'm still fiddling with the homemade aspect there (plus, I have a bread machine that isn't getting enough use as is, so no real need to make it redundant lol)

I'm also oven-less at the moment :P

Although, hope to get an oven by Thanksgiving.
Dunno yet though if we'll be eating here or at my sisters or renting a place or possibly even deep frying the turkey (looks terrible, tastes delicious).

Also, I suppose you could always do fried turkey? :) Nothing saying it has to be same old, same old, right?
Or if you don't have too big a family, microwave ovens also work (better if you cut the turkey up rather than trying to do it whole though, even if you have a big enough microwave).
I've done chicken parts in the microwave, back before when we didn't even have the electric oven lol

Just my 4 person family this year. My husband and I have never had a Thanksgiving when we didn't go to someone else's house so this should be interesting.  :fish:

I will probably have Thanksgiving with my friends.  Used to go to my sisters, but don't think I will go this year, due to problems.  Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving no matter where they are or who they are with.

Me and my family will most likely do the same exact thing as we did last year. We may go join my mom's boyfriend family and have thanksgiving with them. I don't really like it because there is just way too many people and it gets crowded quick. Then, it seems like you're waiting in a line forever just to put food on your plate and the food gets cold by the time you walk back to the table. I personally rather spend my thanksgiving with just my mom and my brothers.

I bought one a few years ago  when my oven was on its last legs. It was great. The turkey was so moist. After reading the above post ,I do not get enough out of mine though. :notworthy:

I have a big roaster that I use at times. I have a small kitchen and I have found that using different appliances for some of the dishes sure helps. But I still like cooking my turkey in a brown paper sack in the oven. It comes out so moist. No, I have never had a fire from using the sack.

This Thanksgiving as always will be at my house where everyone bring several dishes and we eat together.  Also my son birthday is on Thanksgiving and my daugther birthday is that Sunday before Thanksgiving so we will be celabrating birthdays and Thanksgiving and my daugther may be expecting a baby so we have a lot to be thankful for and I pray that her husband get a job and we really will have something to shout about.  Have a blessed Thanksgiving and don't eat too much.

For the last few years I have been going to buffets at church or some Hotels and restaurants have wonderful Thanksgiving buffets. When I was traveling one time over Thanksgiving, another lady evangelist and I found a Hotel with a restaurant that was serving a Thanksgiving buffet. It was one of the best Thanksgivings either of us could remember. No cooking....just eating and enjoying the holiday. All to often, Thanksgiving for the women is cooking and servitude, while the men sit and watch Football. I'm a great advocate of having Thanksgiving out somewhere.

This year I will be spending it with my family out of state. However, we will all be going out for dinner. Leftovers can be bought and brought home for later.

We always have a busy Thanksgiving.  We play football in the morning with all of the relatives, then spend the first half of the day with my M-in law, and the second half of the day with my sister.  The next day is shopping, and the day after its to my aunt-in law for dinner with the hubby's other half of the family.  Whew, cooking for all three is just like preparing my own dinner!

The kids(my daughter and her husband, Kelly) and I will probably be going to Kelly's parents for Thanksgiving. They are
like my second family.  Kelly's dad is a great cook so I am sure he will be making the meal.  His pumpkin cheesecake is to die for.                          Kelly's mom and I are really good friends.  People are always surprised by that.

On the actual day we are just having turkey sandwiches, and then the next week we are probably driving up to my boyfriend's parents house.

I put on a huge feast! Turkey, potatoes & gravy, stuffing, my special corn bread, green bean casserole, squash, cranberry jel, ham & pickle wraps, meatballs, little smokies, jello with bananas, carrots & homemade dip, crispix mix, banana bread, pumpkin pie, apple pie, chocolate pie, caramel pecan cheesecake (homemade!), puppy chow & fudge. Plus I usually throw in a few more items, last minute. I make it all and tell everyone to just bring what they want to drink. I usually have 30 to 40 family and friends show up.
