So I get a mommy news letter and here was a quote overheard in the community
"Let's be realistic here, most of us who are at least 30 and over grew up in drop-side cribs that were painted with lead-based paint, had giant pins holding our cloth diapers on, and ate hot dogs. We all grew up just fine.… I understand these agencies doing studies to find the safest products for our kids, but it seems that people take these opinions too far. You have to be able to evaluate your personal situation and make a determination on what is best for the baby."
What are your thoughts? Personally I agree that some things agencies suggest are pretty ridiculous whereas others I see are helpful. I myself agree though that each family has to decide what they feel is best :wave:

We know that lead based paint is harmful. We know drop cribs are dangerous. Just because one person made it through all that stuff doesn't mean we should be dangerous on purpose. I think that once we learn something is dangerous, we should should just stop using it as a general rule.

Practically anything is harmful and dangerous, and half the time these studies are prompted by concerns of how to justify price increases. I agree with ULuvCeCe that it should be subject to the family, and I don't need a bunch of ignorant bureaucrat's deciding this for me and enforcing it through legislation. If safety along these lines was used as a basis of the quality of people resulting, I would have to say that my generation was superior to the one following, the generation before me was superior to mine, etc.

I think that once we learn something is dangerous, we should should just stop using it as a general rule.
As a general rule, living is hazardous to one's health therefore, we should cease such dangerous activity?

I believe somethings like lead paint are harmful and we didnt know that when it was being used but to keep using it after knowing is stupid (even though they dont even make it anymore) but things like use this child seat instead of that one are people trying to make money with newer items. Just because it is new doesnt mean it is less harmful, it just means you dont know its harmful yet. Like cell phones, nobody thinks about all the radiation that comes off them and they sit in our pockets all day and may cause cancer later in life. Back even ten years ago most people never even considered having a cell phone and protected themselves without knowing it.
