When I was little, it was fun having Thanksgiving, doing the Thanksgiving Play, and coloring all the fall colors, and learning about indians and pilgrims, and the turkey etc. But now (which I understand, because it is not commercially feasible), it is being skipped over and everyone is running right into Christmas.
Sad, as I think our children will eventually be raised without our countrys history and really understand it is a day to give Thanks.
Any comments?

I always heard the earlier we saw christmas products on the store shelves it was a sign of how bad the econormy is . . .
Well this year I saw christmas products in some major stores way early . . . late September. It does appear to be a sign.
I personally love Thanksgiving! My Brother always says it is his FAVORITE holiday. All the family together but not looking for gifts etc. Just spending time and sharing a meal. It is my favorite time with my family and all the kids! The big thing with kids is they mirror what they see not what they are told. So you have inspired me to be creative with a game/craft on Thanksgiving to make them aware. Teach without them realizing.

You know, that is interesting what you said about the earlier you see Christmas products etc. that it is and indication of a poor economy. It does make sense, as the business and outlets need to make money and it is a money maker. So starting earlier seems it would help them. Great insight. That is why I love this forum with FusionCash, is that I get so much information from people like you. Thanks and hope you have a Thankfull and wonderfull Thanksgiving too.

I too love thanksgiving also, both my kids are thanksgiving babies. This year my son birthday falls on Thanksgiving so we will be celebrating both. We all get together and enjoy the day watching football eating and just enjoying each other company. We are so thankful this year.

I use Thanksgiving to set an example for my kids. We can only teach them by example. If they follow it I did my job as a parent if they dont I failed.

I work every thanksgiving so all it means to me anymore is "holiday pay". Sad that holidays in general has lost a lot of meaning over the years, but that's life I guess.

The best you can do is establish a basic moral foundation for your kids. If they stray, well they have their own lives to live, but mostly, I find they do return to the basic foundation of your heart loving teachings, and next thing you know, you have grandhildren and it starts all over again. But now I see my own kids teaching the things I taught them as children. So I guess I am wise, as they teach some of my wisdom. I won't tell them I learned it from my parents, they know I learned it from my ancestors. Teach with images and it sticks. Like, Mr. Frank Takes Gun" his indian name,... etc etc should not have taken gun. etc etc.

I remember doing plays in elementry school. I had a lot of fun especially since I grew up in Montana where there are still a lot of Native Americans. Now I agree with the whole Christmas thing. I went to Bath and body works the day before Halloween and they already had all their Christmas stuff out and it wasnt even Halloween let alone Thanksgiving.
