Post by: dreamyxo on November 05, 2011, 11:41:46 pm
Did you grow up in the 80s and remember?

-You know what “Psych" means.-You know the profound meaning of “Wax on, wax off.” You know that another name for a keyboard .- a “synthesizer” You can sing the McDonald’s Big Mac song.-you know who Mr. T is.-you know who Fat Albert is. Have you ever worn fluorescent-neon clothes. You could breakdance, or wished you could.-You wanted to be The Hulk for Halloween. Party “like it's 1999″ seemed so far away. You thought that Transformers were “more than meets the eye” .-

You knew what Willis was “talkin”bout”. And you did you have your MTV. actually thought “Dirty Dancing” was a really good film.-You remember when ATARI was a state of the art video game.–You were led to believe that in 2000 we would all live in space.-You know what leg warmers are and probably had a pair.-You wore biker shorts under a short skirt and wore your Izod shirt with the collar up.-You had a Swatch watch and your Legos collection started with the prize in a happy-Meal. You remember when Happy Meals came in a box, not a bag. -

You had Wonder Woman or Superman underoos.-you know what a “Push Up” ice-is.-you had to come in the house when the streetlights came on.-You had to change into play clothes after school.-You knew somebody with a Commodore 64, you hated Scrappy-Doo. You would listen to music on your boom box . Somehow you still know all the words to the songs on VH1 “Big 80s”. -

They always said, “Gag me with a spoon.” – you have ever wondered what happened to Saturday morning Cartoons.-you had to get up to change the channel, or was one of those loud ‘clicky boxes “.- You thought the Thriller video was pretty cool.-You remember the first time you rented a movie in a video store. -Quiet Riot “Come On Feel The Noise” was the best song. -You still can not go into the water, because this damn movie Jaws. -El Debarge and ”Listen to the Rhythm of the night“ plagued the radio.-you remember life before minivans and SUVs. Gremlins were cool – Pacers were not, if you can identify with at least half of this list, then, my friend, a “Child of the 80s”

I didn't type this I copied and pasted it was one big paragraph before that's the only thing I changed.  I am not responsible for the grammatical errors.

I was born in the 80th but can remember some of those things. In elementary school, the teacher use to let the class watch Fat Albert, along with Reading Rainbow, and Sesame Street (before Elmo got popular). I remember when the original Nintendo console was popular and had a movie. I do remember when Happy Meals came in a box. I liked Scrappy-Doo but I was a kid at the time.

I really don't remember the 80's all that much (I was a bit young) but I do remember loving the show "Rescue 911", "Punky Brewster" and "Shera" as a kid. The 90's was the golden age for me

Not that I grew up in the 80's but, my kids did. I remember most of the things you mention. My daughter could probably roll off some more. Like she was in love with the New Kids on the Block and when she was really young she was amazed with Mr. Rodgers.

I remember all of that and also the global cooling scare and the coming ice age lol (one reason they can't fool me again with the global warming stuff).  Late edit as I just remembered smoke breaks in High School haha.

I was born in 1987 but I remember some of this stuff. McDonald's was a favorite growing up and I actually miss the boxes. And I really like 80's music.

This is so funny that this was brought up!  I was just talking to my 16 yr old the other day about the movie Valley Girl with Nicolas Cage.  I told him about the "Gag me with a spoon"    "For Sure"   "Like totally"  types of phrases from back in the day.  He got a good laugh out of it!

That was a GREAT post :)  Thanks!  It's amazing how many memories all those items triggered.  I personally love the music the most.  There were more "one hit wonders" in the 80's that I can remember.  The "hair bands" and "power ballads" make up a HUGE part of my music collection.  I went down memory lane this year for a high school reunion.  WOW!  Can you say big hair?  I think we used to keep the hair spray manf. in business just from our high school!  Thanks for posting another reminder of why I love the 80's
