Title: Studies show...
Post by: BK_Adores_Chase on November 08, 2011, 10:41:52 am
i feel like sometimes scientists or whoever say (subject) is bad for you because (reason) but then like 10 years later they say, oh, turns out it actually has the following benefits...

so I'm done listening I'll just eat drink and do what i want because it's hard to decide whats true anymore.

I absolutely agree with you.  Most people and business have an agenda to one degree or another.  Often they advocate against one thing in order to boost the appeal of another and this more subtle tactic (as opposed to directly advocating for the contrary thing or position) often gains more results than the direct one and causes an appearance of an unbiased study or review when such was not the case.  When using such slight deception they will try to appear independent of the entity they are really advocating for and it is difficult to follow the money at time.

Throughout my life I have seen so many popular opinions about what is healthy and what isn't flip flop (and often times more than once), that I take such with a grain of salt.  Often times, when you isolate a particular quality of an item, it can be bad or good as compared to the whole benefit of the item.  Sometimes there are other things to be considered external to the item in and of itself that are also not often addressed in these so called 'studies'.  Even with reliable sources and origins of studies the information can be interpreted incorrectly or too isolated to give a real world use rating.

Doubtless a study can be found showing that smoking, (even "natural" plants), is 'good' for one's health?

This reminded me of back in the late 70's I think it was or early 80's they were saying that RED apples could cause cancer. How ridiculous! They have since changed their minds. No matter. I prefer green apples anyway.

I agree!! Especially after the people you trust - or used too, (scientist) Say that global warming is true and an investigation showed through their emails that it was all a farse to get Govt. funding for their research. I don't trust any of these studies/research. Milk and Eggs were good for you, then it was bad, then it was good again. I wish they could make up their minds. My generation has eaten all these so called Bad things but, most of us are living into our 80's. They are saying the generation behind us that worried about everything, will not live as long but, again that is research - so who know's.

you have to know how to understand the "science" and also look at the financial gains of the authors or those supporting the study.
nearly everything has pros and cons, right?
