:dontknow:I think people who are a diet should stay home. Why come to dinner on Thanksgiving Day if they are going to be picky about what food they can and can not eat. Why should they come and to spoil Thanksgiving Dinner for the people who are not on a diet and make those who should feel uncomfortable?
-
i somewhat agree with you, but i also don't think
just because someone on a diet should be made to
feel awkward by a "food pusher" who tries to get them
to eat a little bit of everything. we all know one, whether
it be our grandmothers, mothers, aunts. they have the
best intentions, but they are notorious pushers.
they shouldn't take a dieter's choices personal at all.
now a dieter who constantly talks about their diet and makes
others feel bad for not being on one, however, should
definitely stay home on thanksgiving! more for me, i say ;D
-
Yes, they should if they choose to. People on diets, also those who are not, should not feel they have to eat a large amount of food.
-
No just b/c someone is on a diet they shouldn't stay home from a Thanksgiving dinner. If they eat sensibly and just take it slow like they would at home there would be no problem. If anyone suggests they eat more and this and that they should reply thank you but I can't eat that much anymore. Maybe later or I'll take some home with me. Don't let it stop them from going to be with family trust me life is to short to start doing like that. Enjoy family and friends and live life to fullest within goals and paramaters you have set.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!

I am on a diet, but I certainly won't let that keep me from spending quality time with my family and enjoying it completely. What difference does it make if I fill up on turkey and veggies instead of all the sweet stuff?
-
Thanksgiving isn't just about eating. It's a time to be thankful for what you have been blessed. Family is one of the greatest blessings. Count blessings where you can, you can have the extra piece of pie that they turn down!
-
I think they should come to dinner and find something that can eat or consider that day a splurge and enjoy the food and family

You can always go and just have fun catch up with family and friends happenings and just make food secondary I am always watching what I eat because of health issues I agree with you old buddy Happy Thanksgiving
-
everyone should be together on Thanksgiving; diet or no diet.
-
Just watch what you eat no matter what the place or time is.
-
I think you can still eat sensibly even on a holiday..but if you're that strict on yourself about your diet then don't complain that you can't eat anything :/ just do what you want and let everyone else enjoy themselves.
-
Ofcourse they should. Heck, this is the one time when they have an excuse to divert from the strenuous diet regimen they've been sticking to lol.
-
I agree with Gaylasue - Thanksgiving is not just about eating (although that's a huge part). It's time to catch up with those pesky aunts and cousins (just joking) and family at least once a year!
-
Nobody should be on a diet. People just need to change their eating habits and lifestyles and then stay with it. The results of taking care of yourself is soooo worth it. Holiday meals are a great challenge for one to make a change in the amount of food they eat and amount of exercise they get. Don't let the holidays be an excuse to over eat and be lazy.

My mom is on a strict diet and she always makes thanksgiving supper. Yes, she does have to pick what she can eat, but she does it so that all of us can be together for at least one day a year. What we eat isn't the main thing. If I were dieting, I would definitely still go for supper. Proper dieting, unless its for a medical reason(diabetes, etc), is all about moderation. I truly believe that I burn more calories at family get togethers anyways, with all the games being played and the laughter.
-
I don't think that just because someone is on a diet they should stay home. Thanksgiving is about giving thanks not about the Food or the diet. If they feel uncomfortable about the food that is there I would just take small portions. After all it's just 1 day out of the year. On a day like that you would not want to miss the family dinner just because of a diet.
-
I would think the non dieters would be more understanding than uncomfortable. I say let the dieters come to dinner.
-
I would just advise those individuals who are on a diet during Thanksgiving to stop! It is one of the hardest times of the year to start a diet and why waste all that delicious food and family time for "cutting calories".
-
I think they should go because its very good to be together as a family this doesn't happen every day But when they go they should know that they are not going just to eat its they are going to share special event and they can eat whatever they feel they are OK with without giving comments about diet and what they are eating when they eat no body looks at their plate. but when they talk about it they made it clear and obvious which they shouldn't do
-
I try to watch what I eat, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying Thanksgiving with the family. 'Course it helps that diabetes runs in the family, and my sis is a dietician. But seriously, Thanksgiving should be a time to get together with those you love; food is secondary in importance.
-
I think that thanksgiving should be more about spending time with loved ones and appriciating what you have. Its all about being thankful. Even if someone is on a diet they should still be able to enjoy family and friends.
-
Very well put people it's about the family and getting together not the food! ;)
-
I think that Thanksgiving's not only about the food. Thanksgiving's about family and friends. If someone choose's a diet during the holiday's it's ok. You can still eat as much as you want too!
-
One day off of the diet is not going to hurt anything.
-
Either take a day off from your diet or eat the Thanksgiving meal in moderation. Just requires more self control than most times.
-
I don't think there is anything wrong with letting lose for one meal a year. If it is a mental thing where they eat like that for this meal and they have trouble staying on their diet after thanksgiving then that seems like a personal problem that doesn't have anything to do with thanksgiving dinner.
-
I think it is a holiday and they should enjoy themselves. If it such a big deal then do a little extra cardio for the extra they eat. I don't think one day every once in a while will break them, if they are doing exercise to work it off.
-
YES.....THEY SHOULDNT BE PUNNISHED BECAUSE THEY ARE DIETING OR OVERWEIGHT. IF THE HOST OF THE PARTY KNOWS SOMEONE IS DIETING THEY SHOULD HAVE A FEW HEALTHY ITEMS ON THE MENU FOR THE DAY.
-
THat really depends on the person. If they have the will power to resist all of that good food , then yes.
-
they should certainly go.. thanksgiving is not only about the food and if your diet keeps from enjoying even the smallest portions of the food everyone else is eating.. you can always bring your own and still enjoy the family :)
-
Yes, being with family is part of the holiday too.
-
I think that one should go unless the thanksgiving dinner is about all you can eat.
But in terms of a family gathering yeah sure, also do you eat for others or for yourself.
Simple truth though.
One can diet and still eat, dieting is about controlled eating which is beneficial if you stay away from
not all but too much starch. Which leaves room for one to have a full plate or even seconds,
Grab some white meats, vegetables, beans, a little cranberry sauce, as little stuffing depending on what it's made with,
a scoop of ice cream to go with that "small" piece of pie. Some fruit juice and water
and that'll leave everyone else questioning who's actually on a diet.
Be sure to do a covered but loud burp afterwards, just to silence the naysayers. lol
