Title: Sitting in the back
Post by: articx on November 28, 2011, 08:41:29 am
If you are driving your car with someone else coming along for a ride, do you let them to sit in the back while the passenger seat is empty? Do you make friends sitting in the back of your car move to the empty passenger seat?

I would rather have someone sit in the passenger seat. I have the kids ride in the back seat but other than that I would feel more comfortable with an adult sitting beside me rather than behind me.

If I have someone with me, I prefer they sit in the front.  Otherwise I would feel like a taxi service without the pay and tip.

I would definitely have the passenger sit next to me in the front...making them sit in the back would seam like I don't really care about them or not want to talk to them...something I have never done. I would always have them sit up front. Making them sit in the back would just be weird.

I have never had anyone get in the back seat when the passenger seat was empty. If they did, I would feel awkard and ask them to move up front.  If my husband is driving and someone else comes along, I always offer them the front seat and take the back unless it is a couple that prefer to sit together.

I just let my friends or family sit in the passenger seat. Unless it's a child, who should sit in the back.

 i would hope that the person riding with me would want to take passengers seat....it would feel kinda awkward if they chose to sit in the back, unless they were a child or not proper weight to ride in the front..I guess if my friends want to sit in the back when the fronts open its there loss lol that just means they cant disturb the radio selection or mess with the heat or air lol!!!!

Why would someone want to sit in the back when a front seat is open?  Unless they are riding with me, that is.....

I don't ride many people in my car if they are adults they would ride in the front.  If I am riding in someone elses car I sit in the front I would never think to get into the back seat if I was the only passenger.

I have so many thoughts about this question and I enjoyed reading the other comments.  But you have really got my curiosity up!  What makes you ask the question?  What is the story?  For me, I would hate a stranger "behind" me.  I would feel insecure.  My unusual mother in law, I think she read something once about safety.  So I endulge her.  (When they get over 90 or even 80, I think they "win" on pretty much whatever they want unless it is a safety issue, etc. )  Otherwise, always up front in the passenger seat. (of course, unless age, height safety issue with air bag, etc.)  Really look forward to hearing your story!

I would prefer if they sit in the front with me no offense but I'm not a cab.

I would prefer to have someone sit next to me and not in the back seat.  That way you can have a decent conversation without having
to talk loud(especially if they can't hear well).  My son(when he was going thru that "can't be seen with mom" stage) would sit in the back
seat when I would drive him to school.  It just feels weird to me.

Maybe someone was in the passenger's seat when they entered the car, that person got dropped off somewhere, and they don't want to move.

I watched this clip from a comedy series,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1ps4EZz4B0

...and decided to ask about it here to see if people actually cared.

LOL  Well all I can say is if you are with me Franlee46 then you get "your way" whatever it is!  LOL  I think you know I did not mean statement as anything disrespectful.  Quite the opposite.  I have a great love and respect for the generations ahead of me.  I figure with that many years of experience I should be listening, watching and learning instead of pushing my feelings and thoughts.  Bet I have more to learn from the generations before me than they have to learn from me!  And I always bow to their wishes when it comes to matters of comfort!  LOL

It sounds like this is not someone that you know, and you are just giving them a ride. I guess I would still let them sit in the front cause it is even worse to have them behind me lol...atleast if they are in the front I could see what they were doing...I always say no if someone asks for a ride that I have never seen before. I would offer money to take the bus!

I wouldn't care. wherever they wanna sit is up to them although having them in the passenger seat would be less awkward i think!
