I'll tell you the best and safest way to lose weight - food combinations

The best source is Somersizing, get any of Suzanne Somers 3 books on this new way of eating. I think the first one is 'Eat Great Lose Weight'

The basic premise is food is classified into 3 groups:

Proteins/Fats
Veggies
Carbs

Oh and 4th no-no group, funky foods, which include junk, white flour, white veggies, white bread

I lost 50 lbs on it. The beauty of this plan is no carbs are taken away from you like Adkins and others like that

The way it works, you can eat Proteins/Fats and Veggies OR Carbs and Veggies. Never mix the proteins/fats & carbs. I lost 50 lbs on it, and it changes your whole way of eating. It also makes you an amateur nutritionist.

It does cause a problem where sandwiches are concerned. You can eat bacon and eggs, but no bread. So no meat sandwiches , but you can make some great veggie spreads

You can have a bagel and cream cheese, or yogurt, but you have to make sure they're fat free. If you use low fat or regular, than you are eating a protein/fat & carb.,

A pretty good rule of thumb is, if it is fat free than it's a carb

It really works

I'd keep an eye on that. Keep track of everything you eat and all your daily activities and exercises at a site like FitDay.com, and see how many calories you are taking in versus how many you are burning. Sometimes we eat more without even realizing. However, if your calories burned/calories eaten ratio is good but you keep gaining, you should see a doctor to make sure your thyroid levels are OK.

Don't distress too much particularly around the holidays.  Monitor what you eat a little more closely and continue to do exercises, even if it only a small amount each day.  Even doing chores constitutes calorie burn and will help you lose weight.  Don't give up and keep a positive attitude.

7 pounds doesn't happen for no reason. You need to track what you are eating... You have to consume an extra 3500 calories to gain a pound... which is more than double the daily allowance for most average sized people.

something would have had to change for you to gain 7 lbs.  If its that time of the month you'll get water gain have you accounted for that.

You probably ate food that was very high in calories during that time period. People always look for abundance when they gain weight and are shocked at weight gain when they know they haven't overeaten. Check the calories you have consumed you will find the culprit. Eat vegetables they are only about 30 calories a serving (most are under 50) and they will get you plenty of fiber and vitamins and minerals as well.

Your weight can fluctuate based on water consumption and meals. Sometimes with swings as much as 5 pounds in the same day. The best way to make sure you really have gained weight is to use the same scale at the same time of day each day.

As for unexpected weight gain that could also be a medical issue if there haven't been changes to your exercise, stress level, food intake or food type. Keep an eye on it and schedule an appointment with your doctor if you gain more weight in the coming weeks for no reason. However the gain could also just be from the holiday goodies.

That has happened to me before. With women, we seem to fluctuate so much its infuriating. The best thing I can say to do is watch your calorie intake, limit that as much as you can without going crazy, add some sort of exercise to your routine, even if its just walking to the corner store instead of driving or taking the stairs when you go to work, and increase your water intake. It actually fills you up. Small changes can add up to big differences. I wouldn't worry too much about gaining seven pounds in two weeks, unless it happens every two weeks or something. Weight just loves to sneak up on you when you are not looking, instead of having the decency to wait until after that holiday party when you are expecting it and ready to fight it. Either way, just try and keep on top of it with simple changes you can maintain, and it should come off eventually. And if it manages to sneak back on, adjust as necessary. Its a continuing fight, and we can win if we try. :cat:

Women can fluctuate 3 - 5 pounds a day from what I've read, so don't fret.  It could just be that your hormone level was off and caused you to gain to balance it or something.  Unless you've been weighting yourself everyday, changes like that are normal.  There is so much going on in our bodies that it's amazing that we can lose weight at all since we are built to hold weight for having children.

As long as you are exercising and eating healthy, a little fluctuation isn't bad.  If it's really bothering you, then just add a few more minutes to your exercise routine.

Well, you either must be eating more then usual, or you are just not moving around as much.
